Lenzkirch: Gorge, Moor and Clockmaking History
Accommodation in Lenzkirch
A trip to Lenzkirch can have very different focuses: the rocks and gorge along the Lenzkirch section of the Schluchtensteig trail, the moorland around Lake Ursee, or cultural history associated with the church and clockmaking. These attractions are quite distinct and offer different ways to plan your trip—from nature experiences to local history.
Gorge and moor as distinct natural attractions
The Lenzkirch section of the Schluchtensteig trail leads into the Haslach Gorge and past Rechenfelsen and Höllochfelsen. The Ursee moorland offers a different kind of landscape. The Ursee Nature Reserve lies within the municipality of Lenzkirch and protects Lake Ursee, the surrounding moors and wet meadows, as well as adjacent meadows interspersed with belts of trees and shrubs. These areas provide habitats for numerous endangered animal and plant species, as well as rare and threatened plant communities and ecological communities. Lake Ursee itself is a typical moor lake: its floating mats of vegetation are home to numerous moorland plants.
The Ursee moor can be viewed from the Lenzkirch–Raitenbuch road. The nature reserve may not be entered; there are no paths into it. Visitors interested in the moorland can therefore take in the view from the roadside, while the Schluchtensteig trail leads into the Haslach Gorge and past the rocks mentioned above.
Trails and leisure activities
Kucky's Bird World Lenzkirch offers a themed trail on a 1.7-kilometre circular route. Visitors can solve tasks along the way, and there is also a bird's nest swing and a playground. With its riddles and play elements, the route offers a different experience from the gorge and rock scenery of the Schluchtensteig trail.
In the district of Kappel, the Hochschwarzwald Adventure Golf Park has 21 themed holes. Together, the two trails and the golf park illustrate Lenzkirch's different activity options: a gorge route, a loop with tasks and a playground, and themed golf holes.
Clockmaking history and a Late Gothic relief
Cultural history also gives a stay its own distinctive character. Founded in 1851, the Lenzkirch Clock Factory was the first of its kind in the Black Forest. In the district of GrĂĽnwald, St. Magdalena Monastery Church houses a Late Gothic sandstone relief. These two details appeal to different historical interests: clockmaking on the one hand, and a specific work of Late Gothic stone sculpture on the other.
