Frickingen brings together local history, fruit growing and nature observation, along with traditional crafts and a concert program.

Village Center and Fruit Growing

The Catholic Church of St. Martin, dating from the 15th century, still marks the original village center of Frickingen. Along the orchard trail, walkers can learn about old apple varieties. The trail starts at the sports center and passes through orchards on its way back to the village. The Bodensee Fruit Museum at KirchstraĂźe 9 presents the history of fruit growing around Lake Constance in a multimedia show featuring four scenes. You can explore the subject in different ways: outdoors on a trail with old apple varieties, or in the museum through its multimedia presentation. Check the current visitor guidelines before visiting the museum.

Chapel, Wetland and Trails

East of Frickingen, the Weingarten Chapel sits on a hill amid orchards. It is open on Sundays and public holidays from May to October; check the opening information before your visit. At the “Himmelreich” wetland, visitors can admire the diversity of nature. The Apple Circular Trail connects the three localities of Frickingen, Altheim and Leustetten. Another way to explore the area is the Bodenseekreis Jubilee Trail: its fifth stage passes through Altheim, a district of Frickingen.

History in Altheim and Leustetten

In Altheim, the old cemetery adjoins the Church of St. Pankratius. The churchyard dates from the 16th century and was closed in the 1960s. Its graves are protected as historic monuments and offer a glimpse of earlier burial customs. Also in Altheim is the Tüftlerwerkstatt Museum: a mechanic’s workshop over 100 years old, powered by a water turbine, from which various “tinkerers” emerged.

The LohmĂĽhle in Leustetten dates from 1835 and is a testament to the traditional craft of tanning. Volunteer guides operate the mill wheel and the machinery connected to it for visitors. Check the current tour arrangements before visiting.

The three Salemertal concerts featuring the Bodensee Philharmonic Orchestra of Konstanz take place in spring, autumn and on New Year’s Day. They have been among the highlights of Frickingen’s cultural life for 30 years. Check the current concert dates and ticket availability before your trip. Frickingen is connected to local public transport through the bodo transport association. Bus route 7396 runs to Frickingen every hour, daily from Monday to Sunday. Its route passes through Immenstaad, Kluftern, Markdorf, Salem, Weildorf, Beuren and Leustetten. Check the current timetable for your travel date.
