Roggenbeuren: Discover the Church and Trails
Accommodation in Roggenbeuren
Roggenbeuren can be discovered from two very different perspectives: the late Gothic parish church of St. Verena and trails leading from the village through a cultural landscape and forests. Together, they offer a cultural destination and opportunities to spend time outdoors.
St. Verena: Late Gothic Church with a Romanesque Tower
The parish church of St. Verena is located in Roggenbeuren at the far end of a mountain spur on the northern slope of the Gehrenberg. The single-nave church is late Gothic and was built in 1514. Its lower level contains a Romanesque choir-side tower. The late Gothic church and the Romanesque section of the tower are therefore two distinct architectural features of the same building. Those interested in architectural history will find specific points of reference here, rather than simply a period label: the year 1514 dates the construction, while the tower’s lower level incorporates the Romanesque style.
The Swing Trail and Hikes from Roggenbeuren
The Deggenhausertal Swing Trail is an approximately 5 km loop with 14 swings and seesaws for children and adults. The starting point and finish are at the information board in Roggenbeuren, where parking and places to eat are available. This makes it possible to plan the route as a loop without having to arrange different start and finish locations. The trail is open seasonally, from the start of the Easter holidays until early November. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
The trail runs between Roggenbeuren and Urnau through a gently rolling cultural landscape of orchards and farmland, and around the Egg forest. Most of the route follows a little-used local road and a paved farm track. Most of the Swing Trail is suitable for strollers and tricycles; a short stretch of field path is rougher. Bear this limitation in mind when planning your trip with a stroller or tricycle.
Another hike from Roggenbeuren first leads via Harresheim and then through the forests of Evareute, Brudergarten and Mannesch to Urnau and back to Roggenbeuren. Its route links several named forest areas with the stretch via Harresheim and the destination of Urnau.
