Discover Neubrunn: Historic Traces and Forest Trails
Accommodation in Neubrunn
Neubrunn combines preserved medieval traces with local trails and recreational activities. Sections of the former town wall, several preserved gates and the orchid trail offer different points of interest for a stay. There are also 860 hectares of forest and a site for recreational activities. When planning, it is worth first deciding whether history, a hike or a combination of both should be the main focus.
Town wall, gates and former castle
The former town wall of Neubrunn dates from 1400 and survives in sections. The gatehouse is a preserved former gate from the mid-15th century; the Schlossberg Gate has also been preserved. Further features remain from the former castle: the three-storey residential building has a gabled roof, while the curtain wall, round towers and moat are dated to the 14th or 15th century. The medieval gate tower is considered a landmark of Neubrunn; remains of the wall survive near the castle. This gives history enthusiasts more than one point of interest: the town wall, gates and castle remains represent different forms of historic architecture.
The tower of St. George’s parish church also tells a story of change over a long period: over the centuries, it grew from two to five storeys. Along with the surviving wall and gate remains, it broadens the picture of the town’s architectural history. The gatehouse, Schlossberg Gate and gate tower can be distinguished as separate elements: a former gate, a smaller gateway and a medieval tower.
Hiking trail and forest landscape
The orchid trail runs between Neubrunn and Böttigheim and provides a clearly named reference point for planning a hike. If you choose the trail as your main focus, you can pair it with the town’s historic sights. The forest areas offer a separate point of reference for the landscape: Neubrunn’s 860 hectares of forest are considered foothills of the Spessart and Odenwald ranges. This places a specific trail between two towns alongside a broader forest setting as different scales for planning.
Recreational activities and practical planning
The Bleicher Neubrunn swimming pool has space on its grounds for recreational activities such as beach volleyball and ball games. Check current facilities before visiting. Neubrunn’s theatre group is also associated with the three weekends before Easter. If this cultural event affects your travel plans, check the specific dates for the year in question.
Bus services connect Neubrunn with WĂĽrzburg and Marktheidenfeld. Check the current timetable before travelling. Base your accommodation search on this decision and on the starting point you want for your own plans.
Culture and wine in the Main-Tauber district
The wider travel destination of the Main-Tauber district is home to Bronnbach Monastery, a former Cistercian monastery. Wine tastings can be booked at the Taubertal wine shop there.
