Reilingen brings together cultural history, nature observation and seasonal asparagus cuisine. A church in the Weinbrenner style, two nature trails and routes that pass through the town offer different ways to shape your stay.

Architecture and Local History

The Evangelical Church of Reilingen was built in 1819/20 by Gustav Frommel and Friedrich Weinbrenner in the Weinbrenner style. Its name connects the building with a clearly defined architectural style and a specific construction period. Another historic site is the listed Franconian farmstead at Hauptstraße 12: two gable-fronted buildings face the street, complemented by an elaborately designed half-timbered gate dating from 1810. The farmstead bears witness to a large, typical local farm around 1800. The church and farmstead thus highlight different aspects of Reilingen’s architectural history.

The history of Wersau Castle takes you back to another era. It was once one of the largest and most important castle complexes in the Electoral Palatinate and served to monitor major road connections as well as a customs post. The historic “Zum Löwen” inn in Reilingen was first mentioned as a hostel in 1435. Both references place the town within a history shaped by roads, trade and travel, without implying anything about present-day use or access.

Nature Trails by the Lake and in the Forest

At Reilingen Lake, the nature trail combines a circular route with information about the lake ecosystem. Information boards cover the animal and plant species that live there, local conditions, and the area’s importance and need for protection. An archaeological find also connects the lake to the distant past: fragments of the skull of the “Reilingen Man” were found there. He is considered a late form of Homo erectus and is dated to between 250,000 and 300,000 years ago.

The forest nature trail in Reilinger Eck explores a different subject. It leads through a 323-hectare protected forest that extends across the districts of Walldorf and Reilingen. The two trails therefore differ primarily in their focus: the lake trail centers on the ecosystem and its protection, while the Reilinger Eck trail focuses on the forest. If you include nature-related topics in your travel plans, these trails can help you identify the subjects that interest you most.

Routes and Asparagus in Season

The Baden Asparagus Route passes through Reilingen on the L 599, as does the Bertha Benz Memorial Route. The two routes offer different themes for travelers exploring Reilingen as part of a route. This does not establish any connection between the routes. During asparagus season, restaurants in Reilingen serve asparagus dishes. This seasonal offering fits the name of the Baden Asparagus Route, but is limited to asparagus season.
