Bad Dürrheim has been awarded the designations “brine spa” and “therapeutic climate health resort.” Water attractions, a lake with a fountain, and trails through varied landscapes offer different ways to plan a trip. When planning your trip and accommodation, it is therefore worth first considering whether you would rather focus on water, a walk or a longer route. Solemar and its sauna offer a different emphasis from the trails through the Baar region.

Water, Sauna and Salinensee

Solemar in Bad Dürrheim offers a variety of water attractions. The Black Forest Sauna has six themed saunas. This gives you two specific options to consider around Solemar: a range of water attractions and a sauna offering six themes. If you are interested in water and saunas, you can factor these into your trip planning.

Salinensee is a picturesque lake with a fountain. Its character differs from the offerings at Solemar: here, the lake and its fountain shape the landscape, while Solemar focuses on water attractions. In this way, a distinctive spot in the landscape and water-related activities complement the various trip ideas in Bad Dürrheim.

A Circular Walk or a Longer Route

The “Discover the Diversity of the Baar” biodiversity trail starts at the spa park and follows a circular route of around five kilometers through meadows, fields and forests in Bad Dürrheim. The route takes in different features of the Baar landscape, linking open spaces with sections of woodland. As a circular walk, it offers a way to experience the landscape over a manageable distance.

The Stifterweg offers a different scale: it is about 33 kilometers long and has connected all six districts and the town center of Bad Dürrheim since 2012. It is marked along its entire length with the Bürgerstiftung logo. The trail is not too difficult to walk, but is suitable for cycling only to a limited extent. Compared with the biodiversity trail of around five kilometers, it is therefore a significantly longer route connecting several districts rather than a circular walk. Its length, route and restrictions on cycling help distinguish the two types of trail.

More Perspectives in the Schwarzwald-Baar District

The Schwarzwald-Baar district also has its own landscape and cultural highlights. A 2.5-kilometer circular trail runs around oval-shaped Kirnbergsee lake and crosses the dam. The lake lies within a Flora-Fauna Habitat area, and rare plants grow near the shore. The walking route and the protected-area designation offer another nature-focused feature in the region, distinct from the trails and landscape highlights in Bad Dürrheim.

Swabian-Alemannic Fasnet in the Schwarzwald-Baar district was added to the national UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage register in December 2014. The carnival lasts six days, from Schmotziger Dunnschtig to Ash Wednesday. This gives the regional cultural theme a clearly defined timeframe, too. When comparing your travel interests, you will find a different focus here than on a walk by the lake or a route through the countryside: tradition and the festival calendar rather than water and trails.
