Dauchingen lies on the Baar plateau; its southern slope drops steeply eastwards into the Neckar Valley. From Michelenwald, the view stretches across the Baar to the southwestern edge of the Swabian Alb. This brings together the Baar’s elevated landscape and the steep descent into the valley as two defining features of the scenery. If you are looking for accommodation, you can plan your trip around the things that interest you most: views, experiencing nature, hiking trails or the history of the town.

Landscape between the Baar and the Neckar

The eastern part of the municipal forest is made up mainly of steep, sometimes rocky slopes in the Neckar Valley and its side valleys. The eastern woodland lies within a landscape conservation area; 28 hectares have been designated as protected woodland. Neckartäle, too, within Dauchingen’s boundaries, is designated as a landscape conservation area. Dauchingen’s municipal forest is considered an important local recreation area. To reach Neckartäle, take the K 5705 county road towards Deißlingen and follow the sign to the hiking car park before the Neckar bridge.

Experience nature and find your way

At the Zaunstetten nature experience area, you can explore different natural habitats and learn about ecological relationships from information boards. Zaunstetten is one of only eight nature experience areas in Baden-WĂĽrttemberg recognised by the state.

The route information also varies in scope. Dauchingen’s boundaries contain 15 kilometres of signposted hiking trails. Seven kilometres of the Neckar Trail run through Dauchingen, while the 290-kilometre Heidelberg–Black Forest–Lake Constance Trail passes through the municipality. The figures therefore range from the local hiking network to a specified section and the total length of a named trail. This distinction can help you consider local trails separately from routes that pass through Dauchingen when planning your trip.

Church and townscape

St. Cecilia’s Church was built between 1844 and 1847 and stands prominently above Dauchingen. As a striking landmark on a hill in the centre, it shapes the town’s silhouette. For travellers interested in culture, it offers a tangible architectural point of reference from the 19th century.

Getting here and choosing accommodation

Dauchingen has direct access to the B 523; the A 81 is about two kilometres away. If you are considering Dauchingen as a base, take this road access into account alongside the landscape and cultural attractions.

A look at the Schwarzwald-Baar district

The wider Schwarzwald-Baar district destination offers more nature and cultural attractions. At Kirnbergsee, a 2.5-kilometre circular trail goes around the oval lake and across the dam. The regional culture also includes Swabian-Alemannic Fasnet in the Schwarzwald-Baar district: in December 2014, it was added to Germany’s national UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage register. Carnival in the Schwarzwald-Baar district lasts six days, from Schmotziger Dunnschtig to Ash Wednesday.
