Lechbruck am See combines trails along the Lech with a distinctive townscape and a variety of experiences throughout the year. You can include hikes, a passenger raft trip, the parish church, and ice skating in winter in your plans. When planning your holiday, consider which of these interests you most and how you would like to spend your days.

Church and townscape

The parish church of “Mariä Heimsuchung” has stood on an open hill in the centre of Lechbruck since 1786 and is visible from afar. The early Neoclassical building has a large ceiling painting and large figures on the altars. The church therefore offers two different perspectives: its location shapes how the townscape is perceived, while the ceiling painting and altar figures describe the building’s interior. If you would like to include architecture in your travel plans alongside outdoor activities, the church is a specific point of interest, distinct from hiking and experiences on the water.

Hiking trails with different routes

The old imperial road, Via Claudia Augusta, runs directly through Lechbruck as a hiking route. The Lech riverside trail follows the turquoise-blue Lech. Another hike starts at the boat harbour in Lechbruck and follows the Lechsee, passing through the Hochbergle holiday village and by the Via Claudia campsite towards Urspring. It then continues upstream, past the Lechschwall, towards LechbrĂĽcke/GrĂĽndl. These routes offer different points of reference: one runs directly through the town, one follows the Lech, and another passes several named places. These differences can help you choose a trail based on whether you would rather follow a route through the town, the riverbank, or a described sequence of places and waypoints.

Experiences at the boat harbour and in winter

Passenger raft trips depart from and arrive at the Lechbruck boat harbour at LechwiesenstraĂźe 36. A trip lasts about two hours. If you plan to take one, you can use this approximate duration when planning your day; check the current departure times in advance.

In winter, an open-air ice rink adds another option: visitors can ice skate to music, and skates are available to rent. As a seasonal activity, the ice rink offers something different from the hiking trails and raft trips. If ice skating is important to your stay, it is advisable to check the current opening hours before your visit.

Accommodation and planning your days

When looking for accommodation in Lechbruck, you can start with the activities you have planned. Would you rather go hiking, take a raft trip, or—during the winter season—go ice skating? The townscape and parish church can also be a focus in their own right. Then consider which accommodation location suits your personal plans for the day. This way, you can choose where to stay based on the experiences you actually want to include, rather than choosing accommodation separately from your interests.

If you are planning a family trip, you can weigh the different options according to the interests of your fellow travellers: trails, the townscape, a raft trip, and the ice rink in winter each offer a different focus. For planning together, it is helpful to think in advance about which of these experiences are a priority for your stay and which you would simply like to keep in mind as additional options.

The Ostallgäu in its wider regional context

The Ostallgäu also offers its own perspective on the landscape. In the southwest, the mountains in the district of Ostallgäu are part of the Vilser Gebirge; in the southeast, they belong to the Ammergebirge. At 2,082 metres, the Hochplatte is the highest mountain in the Ostallgäu. The region has 32 local hiking routes showcasing special natural and local treasures.

For cycling, the Ostallgäu Cycle Travel Region has regional routes covering the entire Ostallgäu. Each is 25 to 76 kilometres long, signposted throughout, and has its own theme. Another regional cycling route goes around the Forggensee. At more than 15 square kilometres, this lake is Bavaria’s fifth largest and Germany’s largest reservoir. During the summer season, Forggensee boat trips run regular tours. This offers a broader perspective on hiking, cycling, and water-based experiences in the Ostallgäu, distinct from planning a visit to Lechbruck.
