Discover Wiesenfelden through its trails and natural landscapes: the Goldsteig Trail passes through the municipality, there is an accessible circular trail at Beckenweiher, and the History Trail features historic buildings and places. In winter, several intermediate cross-country ski trails and a sledding hill are also available. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether nature, history or snow activities should be the main focus.

Goldsteig Trail and Nature Reserves

The Goldsteig quality hiking trail runs for about 18 kilometres through the municipality of Wiesenfelden. Along the way, it passes the “Brandmoos” and “Weiherlandschaft bei Wiesenfelden” nature reserves before reaching Wiesenfelden. The trail also crosses Beckenweiher on a 110-metre-long nature observation boardwalk. Those interested in the landscape along the route will find a variety of habitats in Brandmoos, including rare transitional and floating mat bogs, the Bavarian Forest’s only downy birch forest, and a nutrient-poor hay meadow in very good condition.

The Beckenweiher circular trail offers a different focus: it is 2.5 kilometres long and runs along easy-to-walk gravel paths. The route is step-free, has only slight changes in elevation, and is also suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. This means that different trail features can take centre stage when planning: the Goldsteig Trail’s route through the municipality and the explicitly accessible circular trail around the pond. The nature observation boardwalk is temporarily closed; please check whether it is currently accessible before your visit.

Discover Nature and Explore History

Along the Kobelberg Nature Experience Trail, children and adults can experience nature at nine stations. The stations give the trail a different character from a hike focused mainly on distance and route: here, the emphasis is on discovery at each individual station.

The “Historisches Wiesenfelden” History Trail also passes through the village. It focuses on historic buildings and places, adding a cultural perspective on Wiesenfelden to the nature trails. If you would like to vary your activities over several days, you can treat nature experiences, the circular trail at Beckenweiher and the historic village trail as different options.

Cross-Country Ski Trails and a Sledding Hill in Winter

There are several intermediate cross-country skiing options, with different distances and starting points. The Schiederhofer Trail is 7 kilometres long, with a starting point in Wiesenfelden. The Höhenberger Trail is 8 kilometres long. Starting points are in Wiesenfelden at the car park on Falkensteiner Straße and in Höhenberg by the Dirrigl Inn. On the intermediate connecting trail to Falkenstein, you can choose between 5, 11 or 17 kilometres; the starting point in Wiesenfelden is at Neuweiher.

The distances given help you choose a trail based on the length you want to ski. The listed locations provide a practical guide to choosing a starting point. Since trail conditions depend on the winter weather, check the municipality’s latest condition updates before setting out.

The municipality also identifies a hill on Falkensteiner StraĂźe that is particularly suitable for sledding. This winter activity also depends on snow conditions. Cross-country skiing and sledding are therefore different options, and the same conditions cannot be assumed for both.

Wiesenfelden in Its Regional Context

The wider travel destination of Straubing-Bogen is shaped by the Bavarian Forest, the fertile Gäuboden plain and the Danube. This regional perspective complements Wiesenfelden’s nature and cultural experiences with a broader view of the landscape.

Then take the listed starting points and locations into account when searching. This lets you base your further planning on the experiences you actually intend to enjoy, rather than treating all the options as equally important.
