Culture and nature in Dingolfing-Landau

The wider Dingolfing-Landau destination also offers a variety of cultural attractions. At Kastenhof Landau in the old town, original archaeological finds from the region tell the story of the first farmers. Hands-on replicas, striking images and Lisar, a lifelike figure of a Neolithic woman, bring this period to life. The Landau Local History Museum, by contrast, focuses primarily on the 19th century: Housed in the 250-year-old WeiĂźgerberhaus, it showcases rural domestic culture, faith and devotion, the history of the town of Landau, bourgeois domestic life and self-representation, and crafts in the town. The two museums have different focuses, spanning early archaeological finds through to domestic and urban history.

The Dingolfing Museum occupies three historic buildings in the Upper Town: Herzogsburg, Pfleghof and Getreidekasten. It presents the urban and industrial history of Dingolfing, from the Neolithic period to the present day. Herzogsburg was built around 1410 as the official residence of the Kastner (administrative official) and as quarters for the Bavarian dukes. Another historic highlight in the wider destination is the Maria im Steinfels pilgrimage church: it was consecrated in 1726, and its altar stands in front of a Nagelfluh rock face.

The wider destination also offers a range of ways to enjoy nature. The “Vilstal near Marklkofen” nature reserve covers almost 175 hectares and provides a habitat for numerous animal and plant species. The nature reserve includes the Vilstalsee, which covers around 100 hectares. The area is ideal for walks and cycle rides, and there are also opportunities for boating, sailing and surfing. This means you can choose between activities on land and on the water.

If you would like to include relaxation and wellness in your plans, the wider Dingolfing-Landau destination is also home to the sauna and wellness area at Caprima leisure pool. It has recently been renovated and certified as a “Premium facility” by the German Sauna Association.

Mamming offers the direct connection to the Isar Cycle Route, the parish church and the nearby Isar floodplains; Dingolfing-Landau broadens the range of themes to include museums, Vilstalsee and other cultural attractions. You can focus on Mamming or explore the wider Dingolfing-Landau area.
