Discover Marktbreit through several distinct themes: the town fortifications lead to towers and gates, a Roman camp dating from the Augustan period lies on Kapellenberg hill above the town, and the TraumRunde begins on the banks of the Main. There is also a regional cultural trail, the Main Cycle Route and a wine experience hike. For your travel plans, this means a choice of different focuses: you can explore the town’s history, choose a longer route, or combine wine and scenery. When looking for accommodation in Marktbreit, these interests can help shape the character of your trip—whether you are more interested in local history, cycling or a themed hiking experience.

Towers and gates as a guiding theme

The Marktbreit Tower Trail is a circular route of about 1.2 kilometres along the town fortifications. Parts of the fortifications are still well preserved, and numerous towers and gates define the route. Information boards focus on the towers and town gates, making the fortifications the subject of the walk. The trail is considered family-friendly. Its short distance offers an accessible introduction to the town’s history and is clearly different from the 15-kilometre “Gnodstadter Dreieck” Cultural Trail.

From the Roman camp to the museum

The Roman camp on Kapellenberg hill above Marktbreit offers a different historical perspective. It dates from the Augustan period and covers about 37 hectares. Today, you can walk around the site on a circular path. The camp’s size and the circular route give Roman history its own place in your stay, away from the shorter town walk.

The Malerwinkel is also part of the town’s history: following extensive restoration, it was converted into a museum in 1991. Marktbreit thus brings together several historical themes, from the Roman camp to the Malerwinkel’s later use as a museum.

Walking and cycling routes on different scales

For a longer outing, the 15-kilometre “Gnodstadter Dreieck” Cultural Trail has nine stations. It provides information about the cultural landscape and connects Marktbreit with Ochsenfurt and Gnodstadt. Compared with the approximately 1.2-kilometre Tower Trail, it is a considerably longer route with a regional focus. The Main Cycle Route passes through Marktbreit; in 2008, the ADFC awarded it five stars, making it the first long-distance cycle route to receive this rating.

The TraumRunde starts at the Mainparkplatz car park by the Alter Kranen in Marktbreit, right on the banks of the Main. This gives it a different starting point from the Tower Trail or the Roman camp on Kapellenberg hill. If route details are important for your plans, check them before setting out. This lets you choose between routes based on their theme and length, without every outing having to share the same focus.

Experience wine and scenery

At Kapellenberg in Marktbreit, a wine experience hike follows the “Liebespfad” (Love Trail) to panoramic heights. Four regional wines are offered along the way, and you can learn about Franconia, vines and wine. This combines a scenic experience with regional themes, adding a distinct option alongside the historical walking routes. If wine and culture are among your travel interests, this hike offers a firsthand introduction to the world of Franconian wine.

A separate look at Kitzingen

The wider destination of Kitzingen offers its own historical sites and leisure activities that add to the picture of the region. The Falterturm in Kitzingen was built between 1469 and 1496 as a watchtower in the outer town wall and was formerly called “Falltorturm.” The Old Main Bridge, also known as “Pippinsbrücke,” has medieval origins and was first documented in 1300. Kitzingen’s town hall on the market square was built in the 16th century in the Renaissance style by Hans Eckart von Schaffhausen.

Kitzingen’s outdoor swimming pool on Mondsee Island also belongs to this wider picture. Open from May to September for family outings, it has a 50-metre swimming pool, an 80-metre water slide and a diving tower. When planning your trip, you can distinguish Marktbreit’s themes of town history, routes and wine from Kitzingen’s independent historical sites and seasonal activities.
