Swim at Berger Weiher, cycle along the Würmtal Cycle Route or discover traces of early architectural history: Krailling appeals to travellers with a range of interests. The town brings together summer swimmers and a circular path around the pond with the cycle route that runs through Krailling. There are also the foundations of the former Hofmark Castle and the branch church of St. Margaret right by the Würm. This offers a choice of different themes for planning your holiday: water, outdoor activity and local history.

Berger Weiher: swimming and circular path

Berger Weiher in Krailling attracts swimmers in summer and can also be circled on foot. Swimming and walking offer two different ways to experience the same place: a swim is a seasonal activity, while the circular path focuses on getting out and about by the water. The planted willow island is another attraction. A sunlit side of the pond also features a play and recreational area.

Cycling and getting there

For a two-wheeled excursion, the Würmtal Cycle Route offers its own focus: it runs through Krailling. The route passes through beautiful countryside and is suitable for easy, family-friendly cycling tours. A bike ride is therefore different from a walk around Berger Weiher: here, the focus is on cycling along the route through Krailling, while there it is on the path around the water.

Bus route 936 runs between Gauting, Krailling and Munich-Fürstenried (U-Bahn), and back. Check the timetable before travelling if you plan to use this connection.

Local history around the castle site and the Würm

The foundations of the former Hofmark Castle in Krailling can now be viewed behind the municipal library on Margaretenstraße. The former Linner KG grain mill offers another glimpse into architectural history: it was built in 1892 as a three-storey building with a pitched roof, incorporating parts of its predecessor mill, on the site of the former Hofmark Castle in Krailling. The reused parts provide a tangible link to the predecessor mill, while the location on the former castle site also connects the mill to the town’s older history. The branch church of St. Margaret is right by the Würm in Krailling, adding another historic landmark by the river.

Krailling in the wider Starnberg travel destination

The wider Starnberg travel destination also has distinct attractions that are separate from the experiences in Krailling. The Bismarck Tower near Assenhausen was inaugurated on 1 July 1899. The heritage-listed Feldafing lido is still largely in its original 1927 condition; seasonal opening times may change. At Bucentaurpark in Starnberg, swimming and bathing in Lake Starnberg are prohibited by order of the lake navigation authority because the shipyard harbour is immediately adjacent. Check this rule again before your visit.

If you are considering Krailling as a place to stay, first decide which theme you want to shape your visit: summer swimming, cycling or exploring local history. You can then focus your search on accommodation in Krailling.
