Discover Gröbenzell through its distinctive contrasts: artworks in the Bürgerpark, a historic bridge with an unusual story behind its name, and opportunities for exercise and play shape what the town has to offer. The S-Bahn journey to Munich may also be relevant when planning your trip.

Art and exercise in the Bürgerpark

Works by Gröbenzell sculptor Hannes L. Götz can be seen year-round in the Bürgerpark Gröbenzell. The same park also has a loop on the Trimm.Dich.Pfad, which is about 1.9 km long. This gives you two different ways to spend your day: enjoying art in a public park and taking a clearly measured exercise loop. For families, the playground at the Ascherbach is another specific activity. It covers 15,400 m² and has water play equipment by the stream. As playground facilities can change, check their current condition before your visit.

Local history and cultural venues

A Stolperstein (commemorative plaque) for Kurt Schroeter is located on Bahnhofstraße, a few metres from Gröbenzell’s north station exit. The bridge in Gröbenzell, popularly but incorrectly known as the Russenbrücke, also has a remarkable construction history: it was built by French prisoners of war in 1915/1916. Its Art Nouveau design was created by a French officer and architect who was being held as a prisoner of war.

The restored Alte Schule in the centre of Gröbenzell is currently an inn; check its current use before visiting. The Stations of the Cross in St. Johann Baptist Church in Gröbenzell comprise 14 stations made of bronze and aluminium. For concertgoers, the concert hall at the Rudolf Steiner School at Spechtweg 1 in Gröbenzell has 350 seats. Check the current programme and event terms before travelling.

Cycle route and S-Bahn journey

The Räuber-Kneißl cycle route opened in spring 2021. Divided into four stages, it runs for 110 kilometres through the municipalities of the WestAllianz München and passes through Gröbenzell. The distances refer to different routes: the cycle route passes through several municipalities, while the approximately 1.9 km refers to the loop in the Bürgerpark.
