Neuhaus a.d.Pegnitz brings together cultural sites and trails; anglers can also use several sections of the Pegnitz. The medieval hilltop castle of Veldenstein Castle stands above the town. The Rococo church of St. Peter and Paul adds an art-historical highlight, while the Chapel Trail and the Karst Nature Trail offer different kinds of routes. You can plan your stay around culture, hiking or fishing. For visitor-specific permit details, contact the local fishing club.

Rococo Church and Veldenstein Castle

The furnishings of the Rococo church of St. Peter and Paul bring together works by Bamberg sculptor Mutschelle, a 450-year-old Madonna with a rosary, and a late Gothic statue of Mary from the 15th century. Also on display are guild poles carved and painted around 1767 by Neuhaus craftspeople. These pieces offer different art-historical perspectives: sculpture, Marian art, and the work of Neuhaus’s guilds.

Veldenstein Castle, a medieval hilltop castle, stands above Neuhaus. The inner courtyard and viewing platform are open to the public; guided tours are not available. The castle reopened to visitors on August 21, 2026. Check the official website for the latest information before your visit.

Trails in Neuhaus

The Chapel Trail leads from the railway station uphill to the market square and the Neuhaus Stations of the Cross. The route from the station to the Pegnitz bridge and onward toward Krottensee to the War Memorial Chapel is also part of this trail. Its listed destinations therefore lead from the town center toward the War Memorial Chapel.

The Karst Nature Trail starts and ends at Neuhaus a. d. Pegnitz railway station and is marked with a green dot along its entire length. This gives it different wayfinding markers from the Chapel Trail: a start and finish at the station and continuous trail markings. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

The Nürnberger Land is part of the Franconian Switzerland–Franconian Jura Nature Park. More than 3,000 kilometers of well-marked hiking trails and well-developed cycling routes, with varying levels of difficulty, run through the Nürnberger Land. When choosing a route, you can consider distance and elevation gain as separate planning factors. Trail conditions can change; check the latest information before hiking.

The Nürnberger Land also offers further opportunities for culture and relaxation. The German Shepherds’ Museum in Hersbruck displays clothing, equipment and handicrafts made by shepherds from around the world.
