Adelshofen reveals itself through vineyards, old paths and diverse reminders of local history. In the town center stands the church dedicated to Saint Nicholas; in Tauberzell, a winemaking tradition spanning more than 800 years shapes the village. The municipality lies directly on the Romantic Road in the Lovely Tauber Valley, and the road runs straight through Tauberzell.

Village Life and Winegrowing Culture

In Adelshofen, the village youth keep alive the custom of “Kirchweihausgraben.” During a procession through the village, local events are portrayed humorously. This offers a distinct glimpse into local customs, alongside the churches, towers and historic buildings found in the municipality’s districts.

Tauberzell also tells the story of a long connection with winegrowing: winemaking there has a tradition spanning more than 800 years, and the character of the Franconian Häcker village has been preserved to this day. Vineyards also feature in descriptions of the routes around the village. The Tauberzell wild-fruit meadow showcases 20 wild-fruit and fruit trees in 16 different varieties; interpretive texts provide information about the plants.

Paths Through Vineyards and Countryside

The “Hasennestle” circular hiking trail starts at St. Vitus Church in Tauberzell. It is about 4.8 kilometers long and leads through vineyards. Along the way, there are views of Tauberzell and the valley from Holdermühle to Tauberscheckenbach. Important for planning: the trail is not accessible, as the two levels of the vineyard are connected only by an unpaved path. Check local parking conditions before setting out as well.

Another route description is offered by the Lachenweg: it climbs along an old sunken lane and opens up views of former and still-cultivated vineyards. It also crosses the Rothenburg Landhege, a historic rampart that is still visible today. Those interested in cycling will find another useful landmark near Tauberscheckenbach: there, cyclists cross the Tauber and join the well-known “Lovely Tauber Valley” cycle route. The “Hegereiterweg” cycling and hiking trail runs directly through Großharbach.

Buildings and History in the Districts

GroĂźharbach is home to a historic watchtower dating from 1606, which is part of the Rothenburg Landhege. In Neustett, the round tower in the town center is the best-known building; it once served as a wind-powered oil mill. Both places show how varied the historic buildings in Adelshofen are.

Gickelhausen also preserves reminders of earlier uses: the cemetery is home to an altar table from a former chapel, which is preserved as a monument and cherished by residents. The old Brechhaus, a flax-breaking house, still stands south of the village pond; the municipality restored it in the 1970s. The municipality’s architectural heritage also includes the Hautschenmühle on the Tauber, with its Baroque half-timbered gables.
