Burgbernheim brings together orchards, trails and a striking testament to its history: the fortified church. If you are looking for accommodation in Burgbernheim, you can make nature, outdoor activities or local history the focus of your stay. The activities and attractions offer different highlights—from guided orchard tours and scenic trails to a museum with special exhibits.

Discover the Orchards

The orchard nature trail offers insights into the ecologically valuable habitat of the traditional orchard. It also offers views across the Frankenhöhe and into the Aisch Valley. This trail combines insights into nature with scenic vistas. If you would like to learn more about the orchards, Bernatura offers special orchard tours and walks through the Burgbernheim orchards. The route, duration and topics can be arranged individually.

Bernatura is an orchard experience center in Burgbernheim that inspires interest in local orchard fruit and shares knowledge about this habitat. Products from the orchards are also part of the offering: BERNATURA’s shop sells fruit spreads, juices, Secco, plum beer, chocolates, vinegars, oils and herb salt. The selection may change.

The Fortified Church and Special Exhibits

Burgbernheim’s fortified church was probably built in the mid-15th century under the rule of the Margraves. Of the original double walls that once surrounded it and its four corner towers, only the northeast tower, the “Seilersturm,” remains today. This structure makes it particularly easy to trace how the site has changed: the original fortifications no longer survive in their full extent, but the Seilersturm remains.

The clock museum offers another cultural attraction, with many special exhibits. Together with the fortified church, it offers a choice between local history and a collection devoted to a different subject. The area around Burgbernheim’s Hirschteich has been considered the source area of the Altmühl since the earliest maps—a further remarkable connection to the history of the town and its surroundings.

Explore on Foot and by Bike

There are 75 kilometers of signposted, well-maintained hiking trails around Burgbernheim, complemented by picnic spots and benches. In Burgbernheim itself, seven designated Nordic walking routes of varying difficulty are part of the recreational offering. The route information gives you a useful guide when planning outdoor activities during your stay; the hiking trails around town offer a different focus.

There are designated cycling routes, too: for example, they lead from Burgbernheim to Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Bad Windsheim. On foot, you can choose between hiking trails, Nordic walking and the orchard nature trail, with its nature-focused features and scenic views; by bike, the two destinations mentioned provide your bearings. A landscape lake and the opportunity to fish are also among Burgbernheim’s recreational facilities.

Choose Accommodation to Suit Your Interests
