Discover Pommersfelden
Accommodation in Pommersfelden
One of Pommersfelden’s most distinctive sights is Weissenstein Palace. The churches and historic townscape also tell stories of different chapters in the town’s history. There is also a palace park redesigned in the English style, along with signposted cycling and hiking trails. You can shape your stay around palace culture, local history and outdoor activities.
Palace, church and local history
The Hall of Mirrors at Weissenstein Palace in Pommersfelden is considered the oldest of its kind in Germany. St. Mary and St. John’s Church also has a special historical connection: it preserves a Renaissance pulpit dating from 1599 and houses the crypt of the Truchsess family of Pommersfelden, who ruled there until 1710. The Protestant church was built around 1750 right next to the old moated castle. The pulpit, crypt and date of construction each highlight a different period, all of which you can discover on a walk through the town.
The Pommersfelden town-centre ensemble encompasses the castle site and the area around the Truchsess moated castle, as well as the historic town centre with its church, town hall, rectory and other 18th-century buildings. It also includes the entire Weissenstein Palace complex, with the additions to the palace park made in the 19th century. Pommersfelden’s historic character is therefore not defined by a single building, but by several parts of the town and their historic appearance.
A stroll through the palace park, redesigned in the English style in the 19th century, complements a visit to the palace grounds. Weissenstein Palace is also the venue for the annual Collegium Musicum palace concerts, which attract music lovers from further afield. If you are planning to attend a concert, check the latest dates before your trip.

Bamberg: more culture and nature to explore
The wider Bamberg destination offers additional places to visit in their own right. In Ebrach, the monastery complex was extensively transformed by Leonhard Dientzenhofer in the 18th century into a Baroque complex resembling a palace; the Gothic church with its rose window was preserved. In Buttenheim, the Levi Strauss Museum – Birthplace Buttenheim tells the life story of Levi Strauss and the history of his famous blue jeans. Both destinations offer cultural experiences that differ from Pommersfelden’s palace and local history.
The wider Bamberg destination also offers a range of themes for active days. Seven food and drink tours showcase the Bamberg region’s culinary offerings: three cycling tours and four hiking routes lead to floodplain landscapes, viewpoints, places to stop for refreshments and local producers. The Methusalem Tour around Ebrach passes through the Spitzenberg nature reserve and leads to trees up to 250 years old or older and up to 144 centimetres thick. The Eulenwand near Tiefenellern is also one of the climbing areas mentioned in the Bamberg region. This gives you a choice of different themes for planning the rest of your trip: culture, food and drink, hiking and climbing.
