Eichwalde combines a striking neo-Gothic church with cultural venues, a natural swimming spot and the route to Zeuthen. Its varied highlights offer different ideas for planning your trip: architecture and organ music, exhibitions and readings, or time by the water.

The Protestant Church: architecture and organ

The Protestant Church in Eichwalde was built in 1908 in the neo-Gothic style, based on plans by Carl Zaar and Rudolf Vahl. Its façade of red regional brick, pointed-arch windows and light-colored plaster gives the building a distinctive appearance. The church tower is considered the highest point in the town, is visible from afar and defines Eichwalde’s skyline.

The interior is also clearly structured: it has three naves, arcades and galleries. The church is home to the Parabrahm organ. It was restored in 2002, is played for visitors at concerts and is considered the only surviving organ of its type anywhere in the world. Alongside the architecture, organ concerts are therefore another cultural aspect of the church.

Route, water and seasonal treats

The Eichwalde–Zeuthen route begins at Eichwalde station and first follows August-Bebel-Allee, passing the church. After crossing the railway barrier, it is about 100 meters to the Hirtenfließ stream. The route description was updated on July 15, 2025. This is not an official hiking trail, and there are no waymarkers along the route to help with navigation.

The Eichwalde natural swimming spot on Lake Zeuthen has a spacious grassy and sandy sunbathing area for relaxing. The two options offer different highlights when choosing an outing: the route follows a specific course, while the natural swimming spot has a lakeside sunbathing area. Nearby, the Kleine Umfahrt Zeuthen also circles the Rauchfangswerder peninsula. Possible activities on the lakes include swimming, sailing, rowing and fishing.

One seasonal highlight is the ice cream made by Mario, Eichwalde’s ice cream maker: from March to November, he offers a variety of creations every day, including rice pudding ice cream, cucumber ice cream and rose ice cream. Check the seasonal selection and opening hours before your trip.

Local culture and S-Bahn connections

Since opening in October 1996, the Alte Feuerwache Eichwalde has developed into a cultural meeting place. It hosts exhibitions, concerts and readings. Together with the church, it offers a varied picture of local culture: the church combines architectural history with organ music, while the Alte Feuerwache hosts a range of event formats.

Eichwalde has a direct S-Bahn connection towards Berlin and Königs Wusterhausen. If you are interested in the church, the Alte Feuerwache and the natural swimming spot, you can consider Eichwalde as a location when searching for accommodation. When planning your trip, it is also worth weighing up the local attractions and the S-Bahn connection as different considerations.

Dahme-Spreewald as a wider destination

The wider Dahme-Spreewald destination includes both the Dahme Lake District and the Spreewald as part of the travel region in the district of Dahme-Spreewald. Visitors will find scenic, historical and cultural attractions there. One historical landmark is the Funkerberg Museum, located at the authentic site of Germany’s first radio broadcast, which was transmitted from Königs Wusterhausen on December 22, 1920, with a Christmas concert. The museum also holds regular demonstrations where visitors can see a 1,000-horsepower Deutz diesel engine in action.

Königs Wusterhausen Palace offers another way to explore regional history. Visits are only possible with a guided tour, during which visitors learn about the life and royal living quarters of Frederick William I, as well as his era. Check demonstration and tour dates before your visit.
