Reichenow-Möglin: Castle, Lake and Thaer’s Legacy
Accommodation in Reichenow-Möglin
A castle, a lake and a multifaceted heritage in Möglin give Reichenow-Möglin its distinct character. At Reichenow Castle, parkland, a hotel and restaurant meet a film history; in Möglin, the manor park, Thaer exhibition and village church lead to different chapters of local history. When planning your visit, it is worth weighing up these interests: should the focus be on the castle and lake, or on the historic sites in Möglin?
Reichenow Castle: Tudor Style, Film History and Restaurant
Reichenow Castle is set in the parkland by Langer See. This important building in the English Tudor style was built around 1900 and served as a filming location for the series “Bibi & Tina”. Today, the stylishly restored castle houses a hotel with a restaurant. The hotel has a park with access to the lake. Here, historic architecture, a park and modern hotel and restaurant facilities come together in one place.
The restaurant at Hotel Schloss Reichenow welcomes hotel guests as well as diners from the surrounding area. The castle kitchen focuses on regional, sustainable, fresh and down-to-earth cuisine. If dining is important to your travel plans, check in advance what is currently open and on offer; both can change.
Swimming Area at the Castle Lake
The swimming area at Schlosssee Reichenow is opposite the castle, on the southeastern shore of the forest lake and right at the edge of the village. It includes a wide sandy area, a sunbathing area, a jetty and a small diving tower. Access is via the path along the lake’s southeastern shore. Parking for the swimming area is available in the village and along the village street. Before your visit, check the current conditions at the swimming area and parking options.
You can plan your outing around your preferred focus: the castle is all about architectural history and the hotel restaurant, while the swimming area is for spending time by the lake. If you are planning a trip with children, you can include these different themes in your plans without having to combine them into a single activity.
Möglin: Thaer, Manor Park and Village Church
A permanent exhibition in Möglin commemorates Albrecht Daniel Thaer (1752–1828), teacher, statesman and agricultural scientist. Since 2009, it has been dedicated to his life and work in a modern pavilion. The exhibition complements the manor park, where Thaer’s grave is located. A circular path through the manor park leads to a marble bust of Thaer from 1978 and a large memorial stone with a bronze relief from 1856. The park, together with the farmyard, manor house and inspector’s house, is listed as a historic monument. Check current visiting arrangements in advance if you plan to see the exhibition.
Möglin Village Church also tells a story of change and loss. The rectangular fieldstone building contains older fabric dating from the late 16th century. In April 1945, the church was destroyed except for three of its outer walls and was rebuilt between 1955 and 1962; all of its interior furnishings were lost. The village church can be visited through the Thaer Memorial in Möglin. Check the latest visitor information in advance. Together with the Thaer exhibition and the manor park, it offers a historical focus that is clearly distinct from the castle and lake theme.
More ideas in the wider destination of Märkisch-Oderland
Märkisch-Oderland also offers distinct cultural and nature experiences. The Brecht-Weigel House in Buckow has been a museum since 1977. The literary museum hosts readings, concerts, talks, discussions, films, exhibitions and special guided tours throughout the year; individual offerings vary. Those comparing regional cultural attractions will find here a different literary theme alongside the historic sites in Möglin.
For an active trip, the two routes in Märkische Schweiz can be distinguished by length: the Natura Trail is 17 km long, while the certified Märkische Schweiz Nature Park Route is just under 21 km. In Bad Freienwalde, all the ski jumps at the Sparkassen Ski Arena can be used in summer and winter. Special mats and weather-independent inrun tracks make year-round ski jumping possible; operational access may vary. These attractions are part of the wider destination of Märkisch-Oderland and offer independent options alongside the places in Reichenow-Möglin.
