Waldsieversdorf: Circular Routes, Water Tower and Culture
Accommodation in Waldsieversdorf
Circular routes with different highlights
Waldsieversdorf can be explored along several circular routes. The approximately 7 km village walk starts at the WaldKAuTZ and passes, among other places, the water tower, the lakeside promenade, the John Heartfield House and the Volksbad. The route thus connects several named landmarks in the village in a single walk.
Another circular route starting at the WaldKAuTZ is about 8 km long. It passes the Schwedenschanze, Kleiner Däbersee, Märchenwiese and Papillensee, then returns to the Heartfieldhaus via the Heartfieldsteig. Compared with the village walk, this route takes in different named landmarks. Both circular routes start at the same point; their lengths and destinations provide a practical basis for choosing the tour you want to take during your stay.
Water Tower and John Heartfield House
The 11 m-high water tower is an observation tower with a telescope on its viewing platform. The water-supply equipment can also be viewed inside the tower. Opening hours are listed as daily from 09:00 to 18:00 from April to October, and from 10:00 to 15:00 from November to March. Check the latest information before your visit.
The John Heartfield House is also part of the village walk. Its exhibitions tell the story of John Heartfield’s life and work; the house also serves as a memorial and community centre. On the approximately 8 km route, the Heartfieldsteig leads back to the Heartfieldhaus. This makes it possible to consider route planning and the house’s cultural theme together, without the entire tour consisting of just one type of stop.
A longer tour as another option
If you are planning a longer route, Waldsieversdorf is also the starting and finishing point of the 21 km Märkische Schweiz Nature Park Route: it begins and ends at the volunteer fire brigade in Sauerkirschenallee. Its distance differs considerably from that of the approximately 7 and 8 km circular routes starting at the WaldKAuTZ. When planning your day, both the destinations and the respective starting point and route length are useful points of reference.
When looking for accommodation, the type of exploration you have planned may be a deciding factor: should your stay focus mainly on the circular routes and their landmarks in Waldsieversdorf, or would you like to make the longer Nature Park Route the centrepiece? This decision helps clarify the focus you want for your trip. If you are planning days together, you can also weigh up whether the route itself or the combination of a walk and the house’s cultural theme should take centre stage.
Märkisch-Oderland: other distinct destinations
Beyond Waldsieversdorf, the wider travel destination of Märkisch-Oderland offers other cultural and active pursuits. In Buckow, the Brecht-Weigel House has been a museum since 1977. The literature museum hosts readings, concerts, talks, discussions, films, exhibitions and special guided tours throughout the year; the individual offerings vary. In Bad Freienwalde, all the ski jumps at the Sparkassen Ski Arena can be used in summer and winter. Special mats and weather-independent inrun tracks make ski jumping possible there year-round. Access to the facilities may vary. These destinations broaden the range of options within Märkisch-Oderland, while remaining separate places and offerings alongside the experiences in Waldsieversdorf.
