Hohen Neuendorf: Culture, Water and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Hohen Neuendorf
Hohen Neuendorf invites you to combine culture in the cityscape, routes through the surrounding area and activities on the water. The water tower, art in public spaces, concert dates in Stolpe, and cycling and riding excursions each offer something different. When planning your trip, it is worth deciding first whether you want to focus your stay more on culture, outdoor activities or water.
Culture between the Water Tower and the Village Church
The 40.75-metre-high water tower was built from reinforced concrete in the late Art Nouveau style and has been a protected monument since 1994. There is an important restriction to bear in mind when visiting: in general, the tower is closed to the public; visits are possible during cultural events. Check the specific access arrangements in advance for the event in question. The nature conservation tower, a former border tower, adds another historical highlight. The town library is located in the Kulturbahnhof.
The Sculpture Boulevard offers a different cultural perspective. This open-air gallery grew out of a cross-border exhibition project by Hohen Neuendorf and Birkenwerder. It runs along the edge of the Briese floodplains, between Birkenwerder Town Hall and the water tower in Hohen Neuendorf. Individual works of art may change. This brings a long-term cultural project and a specific location in the urban landscape together, without requiring you to assume that the selection of works will remain unchanged when you visit.
The Stolper Abendmusiken at Stolpe Village Church feature concerts of classical music, jazz, gospel and traditional music. The concert series is recurring; if a particular evening is central to your stay, check the dates separately. If you would like to explore Hohen Neuendorf on foot, you can follow City Walk No. 1, which has 15 stops in the town centre. Ask locally whether the leaflet is currently available.
Cycling, Water and Excursions
Cyclists can head in several directions: from Hohen Neuendorf, you can ride an international cycling route towards Berlin or Copenhagen. The Havel Cycle Route lets you experience nature from Hohen Neuendorf, while the Oder-Havel Canal offers a different highlight. Another option is the Berlin Wall Trail: near Hohen Neuendorf, it passes a well-preserved former border tower. Each of these routes offers a different kind of day out by bike.
Water can also be a focus of your trip. Marina Havelbaude offers guest moorings for boating visitors. From there, you can also explore local waterways in a traditional, electrically powered Tendersloep boat. In Borgsdorf, Börnersee attracts swimmers during the warmer months. These water experiences are quite different: from Marina Havelbaude, you can explore local waterways in a traditional, electrically powered Tendersloep boat, or swim at Börnersee during the warmer months.
Horse-riding excursions from Stolpe lead into Stolper Heide, towards Berlin and into Tegeler Forst; rides are also available at the Stolpe equestrian park. For families and other travel groups, it can help to focus on shared interests: would you mainly like to get around on foot or by bike, attend a concert, go horse riding or spend time by the water? This way, your accommodation search can be guided by the experiences you want, rather than trying to squeeze every activity into one day. If cultural events are important, take the dates and possible access to the water tower into account.
