Discover Northwest Uckermark: Lakes, Routes and History
Accommodation in Northwest Uckermark
In Northwest Uckermark, different interests lead to very different discoveries: near Naugarten, a lake, rental services and signposted trails invite you outdoors; in Fürstenwerder, the town wall, gates and fieldstone church tell the story of the town. Kröchlendorff and Naugarten also offer cultural attractions. If you are looking for accommodation, first consider whether you would like to spend your days by the water and being active, or exploring historic buildings and exhibitions.
Water, trails and outdoor activities
The lake near Naugarten, which covers around 33 hectares and is owned by the municipality, is ideal for swimming and fishing. Walking all the way around it offers an impressive nature experience. So you can choose between spending time by the water and taking a walk around the lake.
Naugarten has a bicycle and a boat rental service. If you plan to use either, check the latest local information. The signposted, unpaved cycling and hiking trails invite you to enjoy short walks as well as longer tours, including guided excursions to notable sites.
The “Uckermärkischer Rundweg” hiking trail connects Angermünde, Templin and Prenzlau. Coming from Boitzenburg, it passes through Naugarten and continues towards Gollmitz. Cyclists have another route to choose from: the 55-kilometre “Spur der Steine” (“Trail of Stones”), which runs mostly along a former railway embankment through the Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park, from Templin via Warthe and Boitzenburg to Fürstenwerder. The circular trail can be identified by the towns it connects and its route through Naugarten; the “Spur der Steine” is also distinguished by its overall length and its course along the former railway embankment.
In FĂĽrstenwerder, the promenade, laid out in 1900 and lined with old chestnut trees, runs around the town wall. It offers a specific option for anyone looking for a peaceful walk with a glimpse into local history.
Fieldstone buildings and local history
A fieldstone wall around 1,300 metres long encloses the historic centre of Fürstenwerder. The town gates, Berliner Tor and Woldegker Tor, have pointed-arch passageways and are among the oldest of their kind in northern Germany. The fieldstone church is also a testament to the area’s architectural history: it dates from the mid-13th century. Fürstenwerder Local History Museum focuses mainly on traditional village crafts.
Between Wittstock and Rittgarten, beside the road to Augustfelde, stand the ruins of Wüsten Kirche Wittstock. This rectangular fieldstone building, with a transversely rectangular west tower, dates from the 13th century. The lower part of the tower and sections of the church nave’s outer walls have survived. The ruins thus offer a different perspective on history from the intact church in Fürstenwerder: here, the visible remains of the former church interior shape the impression.
Cultural attractions also complement these historic sites. Kröchlendorff Castle Church serves the community as a cultural and events centre. At Hof Kokurin in Naugarten, a gallery features a constantly changing display of paintings, wooden sculptures and small works of art. Let these interests guide your further search for places to stay.

The nature park offers more than 150 kilometres of water trails and over 600 kilometres of signposted hiking trails.
The Uckermark’s cultural attractions include the Gramzow Railway Museum. It displays historic railway vehicles from different periods, as well as exhibitions on track construction, railway workshops, operations and transport services.
