Thomsdorf combines a terminal moraine landscape shaped by hills and lakes with a crafts courtyard and a church whose construction history dates back to the second half of the 13th century. Nature, crafts and history thus stand side by side as distinct focal points. The village lies in the Uckermark Lakes Nature Park and borders the Feldberg-Lychen Lake District. If you are considering what you want your trip to focus on, Thomsdorf offers concrete reasons to explore its landscape, water and culture.

A landscape of hills and lakes

The term “terminal moraine landscape” comes to life in Thomsdorf: hills and lakes define the surrounding area. Together with its location in the Uckermark Lakes Nature Park and its transition to the Feldberg-Lychen Lake District, this creates a distinct landscape setting. Bodies of water and ridges together shape the character of the landscape. You can make this a focus of your trip planning, or combine it with the village’s cultural themes.

A designated bathing area on Lake Carwitz

Thomsdorf has a designated bathing area on Lake Carwitz. It offers a concrete reason to include the water in your day’s plans. Operating conditions may change seasonally; if you are planning to swim, check the current conditions in advance.

Arts and crafts in a converted three-sided farmyard

Thomsdorf Crafts Courtyard is a three-sided farmyard converted into a courtyard with workshops and studios. Around a dozen artists and craftspeople present their work there and offer it for sale. The offerings also include a canteen-style restaurant, arts and crafts markets, courses, concerts and other events. This brings together a range of activities in one place: viewing works and crafts, visiting markets, or finding out about a course or event.

At the courtyard, Stephanie Schrantz’s ceramics workshop offers pottery workshops on request; arrange dates with the provider. One possible cycling route to the Crafts Courtyard is the route from Templin via Knehden, Warthe and Hardenbeck. Take the conditions of the respective route into account when choosing this option. The Thomsdorf canteen-style restaurant mainly uses regional and organic ingredients. If you would like to include a meal there in your plans, check the current menu.

Several centuries of church history

Thomsdorf’s church is listed in the edition of the Brandenburg State Register of Monuments dated 1 January 2026 under ID 09130437. It was built in the second half of the 13th century. Some individual objects also point to later periods: a 15th-century Marian altar and a 17th-century panel painting were saved. The small organ, which came from Switzerland, was rebuilt; the church door dates from 1580. These different dates make the church a subject of cultural history, clearly distinct from the contemporary courses and markets at the Crafts Courtyard.

Plan your stay around your interests

When looking for accommodation, you can start by deciding what you want your trip to focus on: should the landscape, with its lakes and hills, take centre stage, or are you particularly interested in arts and crafts and history? You can also choose a combination of these themes to guide your stay.
