In Babenhausen, striking historic sights meet digital ways to explore the town’s history. You can discover the old town on foot or by bicycle. During your stay, you can therefore take in both historic buildings and multimedia experience tours.

Historic Sights in the Old Town

The Witches’ Tower is Babenhausen’s landmark. It is located in the old town, which is characterised by the remains of the former town wall and half-timbered houses. The town church adds another focal point: its carved altar, remnants of medieval frescoes and the Count’s pew are all worth seeing. These details offer different perspectives on the history and design of the town.

Babenhausen Castle can also be included in your exploration of the town. Visitors can walk around it and view it from the outside; the castle is currently being renovated. If you are planning what to see, you can choose between notable buildings, the town church and an exterior view of the castle, without experiencing every sight in the same way.

Explore the Town’s History Digitally

Babenhausen offers two multimedia experience tours for smartphones: “Animal Market Square” and “Commemorative Culture in Babenhausen.” Both use the Actionbound app; an internet-enabled device and the app are also required. The “Commemorative Culture in Babenhausen” Actionbound starts at the market square and takes visitors through the town centre for about 70 minutes. This is an approximate guide for this tour, not a fixed duration for an entire visit to the town.

The tour on commemorative culture is generally aimed at adults and people interested in history, and is also suitable for history lessons with school classes. It has a clear historical focus. The second multimedia tour offers another digital format. If you combine the walk with other experiences, you can decide for yourself how much time to spend in the old town and at each sight.

Swimming as a Seasonal Activity

Babenhausen outdoor pool has stainless-steel pools for swimmers and non-swimmers, a wide water slide and diving towers at heights of one and three metres. Its seasonal status is important when planning: the 2026 outdoor swimming season has ended. These features describe the pool, not whether it is currently open.

A Look at Darmstadt-Dieburg

If you plan to extend your stay beyond Babenhausen to the wider destination of Darmstadt-Dieburg, you will find a range of landscapes there: the Hessian Rhine Plain, the Lower Main Plain, the Messel Hills, the Reinheim Hills, the Vorderer Odenwald and the Sandstone Odenwald. Cultural and nature-related themes also add to the region’s appeal. The Messel Pit UNESCO World Heritage Site is a fossil deposit containing a uniquely preserved variety of fossils that document the history of the Earth 47 million years ago. Its visitor centre explains the history and significance of Germany’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site.

For another activity in the district, the family cycling route from Erzhausen to Seeheim-Jugenheim covers about 40 kilometres. This is a different scale from exploring Babenhausen’s old town: the focus here is a longer regional route, while the sights in town can be explored on foot or by bicycle. You can give these two perspectives different priorities when planning, depending on which themes you want to focus on.

Choose the Right Search Location

If you would also like your stay to cover other themes in the wider destination of Darmstadt-Dieburg, you can choose a location based on the landscapes, cultural attractions and cycling options that interest you. This way, your search starts with the trip you want to take rather than with a general idea of what accommodation should offer.
