Discover Reinheim from several angles: outdoors at Reinheimer Teich and through its cultural and technological history. Nature trails, a local history museum, a historic signal box and events at the Hofgut offer different ways to shape your stay.

Nature at Reinheimer Teich

The Reinheimer Teich nature reserve covers about 75 hectares. A circular trail around three kilometres long and eight information boards introduce topics such as history, botany, wildlife, birdlife and life in the water. You can connect the walk with different interests and explore individual topics in more depth along the way.

A total of 101 bird species have been recorded at Reinheimer Teich, including 64 breeding species. These figures may change over time. The Reinheimer Teich nature conservation centre complements the nature exhibits with exhibitions, talks and workshops. Around the centre, a nature experience area has short trails presenting the region’s habitats.

The nature conservation centre also offers themed walks to explore the surrounding area. Their topics range from European pond turtles and tree frogs to beavers, birds and plants. You can reach the centre by bicycle via the Reinheim–Groß-Zimmern cycle route or the Reinheim–Habitzheim cycle route.

Local history and historic technology

The Reinheim Local History Museum presents the past century across 14 rooms. Exhibits include historic workstations used by a blacksmith, pharmacist, washerwoman, button maker and weaver. The range of occupations offers several ways to approach a visit: you can focus on crafts and work or compare the different workstations.

The Reinheim Railway Signal Box Museum offers another way to explore history. Built in 1896, its technology is still almost entirely intact and operational. On regular opening days, you can join guided tours on railway history and how the historic signal box technology works. Check the specific opening days before your visit.

Culture at the Hofgut

The Hofgut Reinheim cultural centre is housed in a historic building dating from the 14th century. It includes gallery spaces belonging to Kulturkreis Reinheim e. V. and an event hall. The Hofgut is often a venue for cultural events, including the Reinheim Satire Week, held every summer. As dates may vary from one event to another, check the relevant event dates if you would like to plan your stay around them.

Reinheim as a focus for your trip

When choosing accommodation in Reinheim, consider what you would like your stay to focus on: walks and nature watching at Reinheimer Teich, insights into local history and historic technology, or cultural events at the Hofgut. This comparison can help you organise your interests for the trip without turning the different offerings into a fixed itinerary. If you are planning a visit with children, you can decide together which topics will be of particular interest to everyone. Check the specific opening days or event dates in advance for tours and events.

Darmstadt-Dieburg as a wider setting

The wider travel destination of Darmstadt-Dieburg includes several natural regions: the Hessian Rhine Plain, the Lower Main Plain, the Messel Hills, the Reinheim Hills, the Vorderer Odenwald and the Sandstone Odenwald. Another distinctive attraction in Darmstadt-Dieburg is the Messel Pit UNESCO World Heritage Site. This fossil site preserves a diverse collection of exceptionally well-preserved fossils documenting the history of the Earth 47 million years ago. This places Reinheim’s local nature and cultural highlights within a broader regional context without conflating the destinations.
