Ottermeer covers around 116 hectares and is both a nature reserve and the last preserved raised bog in the heart of Wiesmoor. Rare animal and plant species live there. The family-friendly circular trail around Ottermeer is about 2.6 kilometres long and passes a bathing beach, a children's playground and a large sunbathing lawn. The approximately 24-kilometre “Aphelandra” route takes you to the northern part of Wiesmoor and follows canals at several points. The 35-kilometre “Along the Route of the Peat Railway” cycling tour follows the story of Wiesmoor through the moorland. The tours therefore differ in both distance and theme: one route description is shaped by stretches along the canals, while the other focuses on the history of the moorland.

Garden Park, Water Organ and Flower Festival

The Garden Park of the Flower Hall and Garden Park Wiesmoor covers more than five hectares. In the Flower Hall and the Garden Park, fountains dance to music every half hour, accompanied by changing pieces played by the water organ. There is also a Tai Chi area where visitors can practise. The musical water display and an area for exercise thus create different focal points in the Garden Park.

For the flower festival, local clubs and residents attach more than a million dahlia blossoms to handmade parade floats. On Sunday, they are presented in a large procession before thousands of spectators. The number of blossoms and the designs can vary. Another cultural attraction is the Wiesmoor Art Workshop, which hosts changing art exhibitions, courses and events. Wiesmoor can be reached by train via the Augustfehn or Leer railway stations; the Fehntjer Bus also connects from Augustfehn. Check current timetables before travelling, as transport connections can change.
