Langen lies on the western slope of the southern Hohe Lieth. The geest ridge formed during the Saale glaciation and stretches between Bremerhaven and Cuxhaven. The landscape brings together geest, marshland and the influence of the marsh and sea. This setting makes Langen an interesting place to explore both the landscape and local topics: water and biodiversity, nature, sustainability and history are also part of the route through the town.

A route with four themed stops

A three-kilometre route, accompanied by a smartphone app, runs through Langen. You can complete it on foot or by bicycle, alone or in a group. Four stops each link a place with a topic: at Marsh Lake, the focus is on water and biodiversity; at the town hall, on sustainability and energy; in Friedrichsruh Forest, on nature; and at Lindenhof, on history. The route thus offers a range of perspectives rather than focusing on just one side of the town. You can choose whether to do the route on foot or by bike, and alone or with others.

Marsh Lake and sensory garden

As part of the completed enhancement project, new paths were created at Marsh Lake. The completed local recreation project also includes a sensory garden with an herb bed and a barefoot sensory path. These features complement the theme of water and biodiversity with tangible elements connected to nature and sensory perception.

Architectural history and town festival

The church of St. Petri Congregation was consecrated in 1980 and is built mainly of wood and red brick. Villa Hinsch was built in 1905 amid a large landscaped garden. The two offer different historical perspectives: a church from the late 20th century and a villa from the early 20th century. If you are interested in architectural history, the church’s building materials and the villa’s garden setting each provide a specific point of interest.

Lindenhof is also one of Langen’s cultural and festival venues. The traditional town festival “Lange(ner) Nächte,” also known as “OGF Langen,” takes place there and on the adjacent grounds. It is organised by Werbegemeinschaft Langen e.V. If you would like to experience the festival, check the current event dates before your trip.

Cycling route, repair service and BMX

The Geestland Route, designed specifically for the town, starts in Wremen and heads towards Langen. In Langen, you can stop along the route at the Müller family’s milk vending station and drink fresh milk straight from the tap. This links the cycling route with a specific stop in town.

The Repair Café Langen – Geestland offers repairs to electrical and mechanical appliances, as well as bicycles, every third Saturday of the month. Check the event date before visiting. BMX racing training is also available locally: beginners can join the Radsport Club Geestland e.V. at any time. Check the training arrangements before your visit.

When planning your trip, it is worth considering the different formats: the app-guided route is a three-kilometre outing with your choice of transport and whether to go with others; the town festival and Repair Café depend on event dates, while BMX training requires arrangements with the club. This lets you decide whether to plan your stay around a route or a specific event.
