Fohlenplacken is especially appealing to hikers who want to experience the landscape along a variety of trails. The Berg und Tal (N 6) circular trail starts and ends at the Fohlenplacken hiking car park on the K 50. Natural trails lead through historic oak avenues and wooded heights, across mountain meadows and to scenic viewpoints. The Sandwäsche information trail and the Fohlenplacken hut are also on the route; views at sunset are possible from the hut.

Hikes for different levels

If you are looking for a hike with a clearly defined distance and duration in addition to the circular trail, the Sollinghöhen quality hiking trail is a good option. It is classified as difficult, covers 20.6 kilometres and takes about six hours. The route connects Fohlenplacken with the Mecklenbruch raised bog, the Ahle spring, the Neuhaus Wildlife Park, oak avenues and the Hochsolling observation tower. This makes it easy to distinguish between the hikes according to their respective focus: the N 6 centres on the circular trail and landscape highlights, while the Sollinghöhen route also specifies its distance, approximate duration and difficulty level. Check trail conditions before setting out; for the Sollinghöhen route, you should also check access.

Getting there and starting points

Fohlenplacken can be reached by train via Holzminden or Uslar, followed by bus route 510. Check the timetables before travelling so that your travel plans reflect the current schedules. For the N 6 circular trail, the hiking car park on the K 50 serves as the start and end point. For the Sollinghöhen route, the car park on Fohlenplackener Straße, opposite the Hotel Waldschloß, provides a reference point. This information helps you match your travel arrangements to the hike you have planned without conflating the two routes.
