Local history, church and circular trail

The “Schimmes Hoff” local heritage house in Fintel features a permanent exhibition about local poet Friedrich Freudenthal. The heritage house also includes a two-post Lower Saxon farmhouse dating from 1771 and a stair-storehouse from 1760; both are listed buildings. This brings together an exhibition about a person and two dated buildings in one place.

Exhibits include objects from the Stone and Bronze Ages, historical German currencies and school supplies from times gone by. Those particularly interested in everyday history can explore currencies and school supplies as a different perspective from finds dating to early eras.

St. Anthony’s Church in Fintel houses carved wooden figures made from the remains of various altars from medieval predecessor churches. As an open cycling church, it is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the summer season; short visits for quiet reflection and prayer are also possible outside service times. Unlike the collection at the heritage house, the historical focus here is on the figures and their origins.

The 10.5 km NORDPFAD Haxloher Erde is a circular route for hiking and Nordic walking. The start and finish are at Melkhus Fintel in Fintel. Melkhus serves milkshakes, quark, yoghurt, ice cream and homemade cake. Check seasonal opening times before your visit.
