Ottersberg can be explored through a wide range of landscape and cultural themes: the Wümme Lowlands are crisscrossed by numerous waterways, while Fischerhude lies on a long dune ridge between branches of the Wümme. There are also trails through nature, a bathing lake, and places steeped in art and local history. This variety gives your trip several possible focal points rather than limiting it to a single experience.

Wümme Lowlands, dune ridge and sweeping views

The Wümme Lowlands are part of Ottersberg and are crisscrossed by numerous waterways. Fischerhude has a different type of landscape: the village lies on a long dune ridge between branches of the Wümme. From Mühlenberg, sweeping views extend towards the moorland, Teufelsmoor, Weyerberg and the Bremen skyline. How clearly these places can be seen depends on the weather. The same destination therefore offers different perspectives on nature: the waterways of the lowlands, a distinctive dune ridge and far-reaching views.

Exploring on foot and by bike

The local walking programme includes a tour through the Ottersberg Moor from Ottersberg towards Posthausen. Another route connects Ottersberg ZOB with Otterstedt Nord; it crosses the Otterstedter Beeke and heads towards the Wümme. The focus differs: one tour centres on the moor, while the other follows the Beeke towards the Wümme. If you are including public transport in your plans, check the current connections.

The landscape can also be explored by bike. Ottersberg has a well-developed, well-signposted network of cycle paths away from major roads. The municipal signposting leads through partly untouched natural landscapes and to local attractions. Cycling and walking offer different ways to explore: the walking programme lists specific tours and directions, while the cycle network provides broader guidance through the landscape and to local attractions.

Swimming in the lake or indoor pool

Otterstedter See, also known as Pastorensee, is a popular place for swimming. The Verden district public health office regularly checks the bathing water quality. As swimming conditions can vary seasonally, check the latest results before swimming. Another option in Ottersberg is the Otterbad indoor pool, with a 25-by-12.5-metre pool; check the current opening hours before visiting. The lake and indoor pool offer different settings for swimming: outdoors by the lake or inside the pool.

Art and regional history

The Otto Modersohn Museum in Fischerhude was founded in 1974 to make Otto Modersohn’s artistic estate accessible to the public. The collection includes paintings, drawings and written records from the estate. Galleries in Fischerhude show works by artists from the first generation as well as contemporary artists; exhibition content may change.

At the Irmintraut local history museum, objects from rural domestic and working life sit alongside items related to local customs and traditional costumes. Another trace of the past is the restored Galerie-Holländer windmill in Quelkhorn, which dates back to 1880. Together, the museum, galleries, local history museum and mill offer different insights into art, everyday life and architectural history.
