Thedinghausen: Erbhof Castle, Tree Park and Routes
Accommodation in Thedinghausen
Erbhof Castle, the Tree Park, and routes for cycling and walking give Thedinghausen its varied character. Renaissance history, parkland, and active routes each offer a distinct focus. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether architecture, time in nature, or getting active on a route should be the main priority.
Erbhof Castle and local history
Erbhof Castle is a manor house in the Weser Renaissance style, built between 1619 and 1624 for Gertrud von Hermeling-Heimbruch. A permanent exhibition covers its history and restoration and displays original objects from the period when it was built. Erbhof therefore combines a focus on history with practical insights into architectural history and restoration.
The Renaissance Hall has been restored with a painted wooden ceiling, tiled floor, sandstone fireplace, and hand-carved window frames. These features illustrate the style beyond simply describing it as Weser Renaissance and draw attention to different materials and details of the craftsmanship. The Protestant Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Thedinghausen was consecrated in 1870. Groups can arrange guided tours for dates of their choice; please confirm the specific date in advance.
The Tree Park: variety and activities
The Tree Park covers just under 11 hectares and is home to around 450 species and varieties of deciduous trees from more than 70 genera. Walking paths, an insect hotel, a playground, a boules court, and picnic areas offer different ways to enjoy a visit. The playground can be a specific planning consideration for families; walks, boules, and picnics offer other ways to spend time in the park.
Circular trails and cycling tours
The Thänhuser Löwenspur is a circular route through the town that links sights from the town hall complex and the Old District Court to Erbhof Castle. It offers a way to incorporate local history into a walk.
The Weser Cycle Route reaches Thedinghausen from Uesen via the Uesen Weser Bridge. The historic town hall with its Packhaus and dovecote, as well as the Protestant Church of St. Mary Magdalene, are beside the cycle route. You can choose between a walking loop around the town and a cycling route with named waypoints to help you find your way.
The Emtinghausen-Riede Tour is an easy 35.50-kilometre cycling tour associated with Thedinghausen. Check the route information before setting out, as route details may change. The Wesermarsch landscape, which is also associated with Thedinghausen, is considered suitable for Nordic walking, horse riding, and walking all year round.
