Fedderwardersiel: Harbor, Wadden Sea and walking routes
Accommodation in Fedderwardersiel
Fedderwardersiel invites you to discover the harbor, Wadden Sea and nature from several perspectives. The National Park House Museum is located right by the fishing harbor, and the Langwarder Groden circular trail starts at the cutter harbor. Guided tours through salt marshes and the Wadden Sea, as well as boat trips, offer additional options. You can choose between the exhibition, exploring the circular trail on foot and activities on the water.
Museum by the fishing harbor
The Fedderwardersiel National Park House Museum is housed in the former customs office, built in 1846, right by the fishing harbor. The exhibition “Life with the Changing Tides” explores the lives of people, animals and plants in and around the Wadden Sea. Multimedia stations, models, dioramas and historical exhibits shape the presentation. The museum also includes a lifeboat shed and the former rescue boat “Wilhelmine Wiese.”
Guided tours and boat trips
Certified nature and landscape guides take visitors into the salt marshes, through Fedderwardersiel harbor, and along or into the Wadden Sea. Guided explorations of these environments are therefore among the options available locally. They differ from the exhibition: on these tours, the landscapes themselves are the destination.
Excursion boats to the seal banks are offered from Fedderwardersiel harbor. Boat trips on the MS “Wega II” also depart from Fedderwardersiel. For planning your day, you can choose between guided excursions and trips on the water.
Langwarder Groden circular trail
The Langwarder Groden circular trail is flat and well signposted; its starting point is at Fedderwardersiel cutter harbor. The route includes several observation shelters, boardwalks and a bridge onto the foreland of the dike. If you would rather spend time outdoors on a marked route than take a guided tour or boat trip, this trail offers another option.
Events and directions
From April to October, maritime concerts take place every Sunday at 11 a.m. in the crab cutter harbor. Check the current annual program for your travel dates. For directions to the museum, use the “Fedderwardersiel, Ort” bus stop as a reference point: it is 469 m, or about a five-minute walk, from the National Park House Museum.
Choose accommodation based on your travel interests
When looking for accommodation, it can help to first prioritize the experiences you plan to enjoy. The museum combines an exhibition about life in the Wadden Sea with the former customs office and the rescue-related objects belonging to the museum. The circular trail offers a flat, well-signposted option; guided tours and boat trips focus on other experiences. If your main interest is the exhibition and museum, you can use the museum as a reference point for planning. For a day outdoors, consider the circular trail, a guided tour or a boat trip; a Sunday between April and October may also coincide with a concert.
