The Hohen Luckow estate, its cultural events and the village church give the place a distinctive historical focus. There are also routes that explore the manor house theme by bike and rural paths on foot. This lets you consider architecture, music, local history and outdoor activity as different interests for your trip.

Hohen Luckow Estate and Its Cultural History

The estate, with its manor house, farm buildings, park and grounds, forms a unique ensemble in the region and hosts a wide range of art and cultural events throughout the year. Christoph von Bassewitz commissioned the manor house in 1707; it was built in the 18th century. Concerts are held in the Knights’ Hall. The building’s history and music thus offer two distinct points of interest for a stay in Hohen Luckow.

Village Church and Glass Art

Hohen Luckow Village Church stands in the centre of the village, right next to Hohen Luckow Estate. Its documented new construction dates to 1308; the church has a history spanning more than 700 years. The patronage church of Hohen Luckow Estate also has windows by glass artist Angelika Weingardt. Alongside the manor house, the church and its glass art add a distinct note to the local history.

Getting Around by Bike or on Foot

The “Manor House Circular Route” cycling trail passes manor houses in Hohen Luckow and other places. The Heiligenhagen–Hohen Luckow–Satow–Heiligenhagen circular walk offers a different kind of route: some sections follow quiet country lanes surfaced with cobblestones or concrete slabs. The two routes therefore differ in how you travel and in the types of stretches described. Surface conditions may change depending on the weather or maintenance, so take this into account when planning.

Satow’s cultural history offers further points of interest. The ruin of the monastery church, considered a local landmark, dates to the 13th century and lies in a park that defines the village centre. The old Satow Church is distinct from the monastery church ruin: it was built between 1219 and 1224 in a transitional style between Romanesque and Gothic and is one of the oldest buildings in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Since 1945, the Satow Church has been shared by Protestant and Catholic Christians. The old cemetery around the church ruin has a park-like character and provides a setting for a wide range of cultural activities.

When looking for accommodation, it may help to decide first what you want to focus on: should your stay centre mainly on estate history, concerts and the village church in Hohen Luckow, or would you prefer to focus on the lake, discovery trail and cultural history in Satow? This lets you start choosing a place based on the experiences that matter to your trip.
