Sanitz: Village Church, Half-Timbered Houses and Trails
Accommodation in Sanitz
Sanitz brings together a village church, half-timbered heritage and trails through woodland and countryside. The village church and the Old Forge reflect different periods of construction; in GroĂź LĂĽsewitz, a village in the municipality of Sanitz, a Neo-Renaissance manor house and a landscaped park add to the attractions. For active days, there is a 36-kilometre circular cycle route and the Kleine Waldrunde Sanitz trail. You can shape your stay around architecture, outdoor activities or a mix of both.
Church, Forge and Local History Room
Sanitz village church was built in the 13th century. It is a massive fieldstone structure with a half-timbered tower. The altar features paintings by Rudolph Suhrlandt dating from around 1800—an artistic touch alongside the striking architecture. The Old Forge in Sanitz was first mentioned in documents in 1798 and is a late Baroque oak half-timbered building. It is not open to visitors because it stands on private property; the courtyard of the Old Forge is a listed heritage site. The Sanitz Local History Room is part of the Sanitz community centre and complements the town’s cultural and historical attractions.
GroĂź LĂĽsewitz: Manor House and Park
The manor house at Schloss Groß Lüsewitz was built from 1896 to 1898 in the Neo-Renaissance style. A landscaped park adjoins the manor house; after 1970, it was expanded to include an equestrian competition ground. Thus, the same site brings together the architectural history of the late 19th century and a later change to the park grounds. The manor house has been privately owned since 2013; it may open for certain events, such as Heritage Day in September. Check the operator’s current programme before visiting.
Circular Cycle Route or Woodland Trail
The 36-kilometre circular route starts at Sanitz railway station and passes through Wendfeld, Reppelin, Wendorf, Neu-Wendorf, Stormsdorf, Zarnewanz, Tessin and Horst before returning to Sanitz. It offers a clearly defined cycling loop for the active part of your stay. Alternatively, the Kleine Waldrunde Sanitz walking trail leads north from the old village through woodland along sandy tracks. Choose the activity that suits you: a circular route by bike or a woodland trail on foot.
Local Produce and Transport
The Sanitz farm shop offers a wide range of fresh regional products; the selection may vary. The shop may be worth a visit if you would like to include local produce in your stay. On the municipality’s mobility page, you can search for train connections to and from Sanitz ZOB; there is also a general overview of bus departure times from Sanitz ZOB. Check the times before setting off on your travel date so you can include your arrival and onward journey in your plans.
Choose Accommodation to Suit Your Plans
Choose a location based on the routes you plan to take, and tailor the daily schedule to your group. If you are travelling with children or people with different interests, you can alternate between cultural history and outdoor activities rather than trying to fit everything into one day.
