Pruchten – Bodden Lagoons, Water and Art Venues
Accommodation in Pruchten
Pruchten brings together Bodden lagoon landscapes, water activities and traces of local history. Much of the municipality is a peninsula extending north towards the Zingst peninsula. To the east, it lies between the Barther Strom and the Barther Bodden; to the west, on the Bodstedter Bodden. This setting shapes the character of the place and offers various starting points for planning your trip, from time by the water to art and local history.
Bodden Lagoon Landscapes and a Natural Bathing Area
Part of the municipality of Pruchten lies within the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park. This means that only part of the municipality is within the protected area, not the entire area as a whole. Together with the surrounding Bodden waters, this provides a clear point of reference if you want to take the landscape and nature into account when choosing your destination.
There is a natural bathing area at the campsite in Pruchten, which also gives surfers and kite surfers access to the water. A local water sports centre offers equipment and courses for beginners and advanced participants. This gives you different ways to enjoy the water during your stay: at the bathing area or through a course suited to different levels of experience.
Waterways and Boat Trips
The small harbour in Pruchten complements the water sports options with boat hire and a stopover for canoeists and other waterway travellers. If you would rather join a guided trip, you could consider Bodden lagoon cruises aboard passenger ships. The boats pass Pruchten and Bresewitz and take guests on trips through the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park. Check the departure times and designated boarding point in advance for a specific cruise.
The options differ in kind: the natural bathing area and courses offer activities by the water, while boat hire and cruises offer views from the water.
Art and Sculpture
Pruchten is home to art studios for painting, sculpture, arts and crafts, and ceramics; their studios are open to visitors. The different disciplines make the town’s cultural offerings varied, ranging from painting and ceramics to craftwork and sculpture.
The Holzhausatelier und Skulpturengarten Pruchten (Wooden House Studio and Sculpture Garden) hosts a studio and workshop exhibition year-round. Steel and wooden sculptures by Max Barske are displayed in the studio and its surroundings. The workshops and sculptures offer different ways to experience art locally; this focus is easy to distinguish from the water activities when planning your trip.
Traces of the Darßbahn Railway and a Bodden View
The old railway tracks and station buildings of the Darßbahn railway are still preserved in Pruchten and Bresewitz. The station buildings are now used for other purposes. Together, the surviving tracks and buildings point to the history of the Darßbahn and give local history a tangible place alongside today’s water and cultural attractions.
A Bodden viewpoint lies at the Kloerbrücke between Pruchten and Bresewitz, on the Baltic Sea Cycle Route. The spot combines views of the Bodden with a clearly marked point along the cycle route. If you are more interested in art and history than in water sports, studios, sculptures and traces of the Darßbahn offer other starting points for planning your trip. You can then choose accommodation in Pruchten based on the experiences that interest you most.
