Krusenhagen combines a precisely located literary history with details of its manor house and an annual event. Hof Redentin lies a few kilometres north of Wismar and is part of the municipality of Krusenhagen. The Redentin Easter Play, the manor house and the Baltic Sea Trophy offer very different points of reference for understanding the town’s history and its contemporary events.

The Redentin Easter Play and its transmission

In the 14th century, Redentin was owned by the Cistercian monastery of Doberan. Later, in 1463, the Cistercian monk Peter Kalff wrote down the Low German Redentin Easter Play at Hof Redentin near Wismar, which at the time belonged to the monastery. The work is therefore associated with a specific place and a medieval monastic history.

The play survives only in a manuscript dating from 1464. It is probably a copy of the original, made in Redentin. The manuscript contains 2,025 verses of the “Comoedia de Christi passione et resurrectione”. The place of origin, probable copy and surviving verses offer different perspectives on the work’s history.

Manor house and monuments in Krusenhagen

The listed manor house at Hof Redentin was probably built in its present form around 1850 and repeatedly altered up to the 1920s. Its historical features include a wooden staircase to the upper floor and double-leaf doors. The manor house is located at Redentiner LandstraĂźe 35 and 37.

Another trace of the area’s architectural history is a listed barn in Krusenhagen. The district monument register dated 28 February 2025 lists it at Straße nach Gatzow / zu Ausbau 3. Together with the manor house, it provides a second, independent point of interest for anyone interested in the local heritage landscape.

Horse keeping and the Baltic Sea Trophy

The work of Hofgut Redentiner MĂĽhle focuses on the individual and sustainable development of young horses. This includes keeping them in conditions appropriate to their species and age, as well as professional training for their future performance. The Mecklenburger Meute is based at Hofgut Redentiner MĂĽhle and Gut Dalwitz. Its annual season-ending hunt takes place at Hofgut Redentiner MĂĽhle every November.

Another equestrian event is the Baltic Sea Trophy at Hof Redentin. It takes place annually; in 2026, it was held for the fourth time. Alongside equestrian sport, it features a shopping promenade and food and drink. Family activities include pony rides, a petting zoo, a bouncy castle, a bungee trampoline and a hobby-horsing course. The specific programme may vary from year to year. For families, the event therefore combines equestrian sport with activities especially for children.

Landscape and cycling route

The landscape around Hofgut Redentiner Mühle includes sandy forest soils and meadows. Another way to plan your trip is the 48-kilometre Krusenhagen–Börgerende-Rethwisch cycling route. It runs along the Alte Rübenbahn, Deichstraße and Seestraße. The stated distance and these sections provide specific details for planning your ride; check the current route before setting off.

In the wider travel destination of Nordwestmecklenburg, the north encompasses the landscape area “Nordwestmecklenburg Hills with Wismar Bay”, while the south includes the “West Mecklenburg Lake District with Lake Schwerin”. Terminal moraine ridges, gently rolling ground moraine plateaus, steep and flat stretches of coast, glacial meltwater and drainage channels, and outwash plains shape the district’s landscape. Around Hofgut, by contrast, sandy forest soils and meadows are the specific local landscape features.

If an event is the reason for your visit, check the specific dates and the programme for that year. If the route is your main focus, take its current course into account when planning. This way, you can tailor your search for accommodation to what you would like to discover locally.
