Lühmannsdorf is a traditional linear village with visible craft traditions and a well-kept streetscape of older houses and gardens. This distinctive character makes the village interesting to travelers who pay attention not only to individual destinations but also to the character of the place where they are staying. When choosing accommodation, therefore, the surroundings you would like to experience may matter as much as the location.

Village character, road access and playground

The village’s location along the road provides a second, practical point of reference for your planning. Lühmannsdorf is on the B111 and can be reached from the A20 via the Gützkow junction. Connections toward Wolgast, Greifswald, Anklam and Usedom are useful for visitors. When choosing accommodation, you can weigh this location against the character of the village and consider which of the destinations mentioned fit your travel plans.

A playground with a trampoline and rope play equipment adds a family-friendly feature. For a trip with children, this is a practical consideration alongside the village’s appearance and road connections; you can weigh it according to your own travel plans.

Karlsburg: Local history and castle park

In the wider destination of Karlsburg, the Baroque castle, the wrought-iron Rose Gate and the castle park are considered attractions. Karlsburg’s historic center includes typical single-storey residential houses, almost all of which have now been modernized. Karlsburg is also on the B109. The castle and park features therefore sit alongside a historic collection of residential houses and a distinct road connection.

An entry from 1300 in the oldest Greifswald town book mentions a Johannes from Gnatzkow (“Jo de gnazkow”). The place, later renamed Karlsburg, is therefore considered to have been mentioned for the first time then. This early reference came long before Karlsburg Castle, built in 1773; the history of the place and the history of the building can thus be understood as two distinct periods.

The grand Baroque Karlsburg Castle was built in 1773 and remained privately owned until 1945. After 1945, it was used as a diabetes clinic and a laboratory building. This sequence illustrates different historical phases: the construction of the castle, its period of private ownership up to 1945, and its later use for two different purposes.

A marble sculpture of the goddess Flora from the 18th century is located in Karlsburg Castle Park. The park was laid out in the 19th century in the style of English landscape gardens. The Flora sculpture and the park’s design thus represent two different historical periods. For anyone interested in garden art, this combination offers a distinctive perspective on the history of Karlsburg’s park.

A short walk through Karlsburg starts at the two village ponds and follows Nepziner Weg and Kirschenweg toward the forest. Along the way, you pass the “Nepziner Weg” residential development and reach the west side of the castle park.
