Crivitz is nestled among beech and pine forests. Lake Crivitz offers views of the church and the old town of Crivitz. Nature and historic sites sit side by side: walks, the arboretum, cycling tours and the town’s history offer different starting points for planning your days.

Forest, Lake and Arboretum

The Crivitz Arboretum is a seven-hectare tree park with 132 tree and shrub species from around the world. Two educational trails provide more information about around 100 tree species and 30 shrub species.

Lake Crivitz is also a defining feature of the natural landscape, but its permitted use is clearly specified: it is a shallow lake used exclusively for fishing. If you would like to experience the lake on foot, you can follow the described hiking trails. A circular trail goes around the lake and into the arboretum; the lake also offers views of the church and the old town.

Hiking between the Lake, Linden Trees and Tree Park

A hike around Lake Militz starts in Crivitz at the end of Freiheitsallee. It follows Liebesallee, lined with old winter lime trees, to the village of BĂĽrgerholz. BĂĽrgerholz is the destination of this tour, while other routes focus on the lake and arboretum.

The hike around Lake Crivitz follows the Findlingslehrpfad along the lakeside promenade on the return journey. A circular trail goes around the lake and leads into the arboretum. When planning your day, you can therefore choose between different destinations: the route to BĂĽrgerholz or a circular walk that takes in the lake and tree park.

Town Church, Synagogue and Local History Museum

Crivitz Town Church was renovated in the Late Gothic style. It is a three-aisled Gothic brick hall church with a 40-metre-high tower. The church probably dates from the late 14th century; its historic wall frescoes include works from the period when it was built and from the Renaissance. The architecture and paintings offer different historical perspectives on a visit to the town church.

The former synagogue in Crivitz is located a few metres from the market square on Fritz-Reuter-Straße. Its distinctive architecture makes it easy to identify. The Crivitz Local History Museum brings everyday life in Mecklenburg around 100 years ago to life through a classroom, living room, kitchen, bakery, barber shop and blacksmith’s workshop. The church, synagogue and museum thus offer different ways to explore the town’s history and everyday life.

Cycling, Paddling and Connections

The “Around Crivitz” cycling tour is 81 kilometres long. One recommended cycling route runs along paved farm tracks and sandy stretches, and briefly follows roads with traffic. These trail conditions and road sections are practical points to consider when planning your ride.

North of Crivitz, the Warnow, considered a small, wild river, invites you to go paddling. Schwerin and Parchim are easy to reach by bus and train for trips beyond Crivitz. Check connections and journey times for your specific travel dates.

When looking for accommodation, you can start with your planned activities: would you like your stay to focus on walks, the tree park and views of the lake, or would you prefer to make the town church, former synagogue and local history museum your cultural highlights? You can also factor in possible trips to Schwerin or Parchim.
