Neu Poserin: Moor, Heide und Gutshaus
Accommodation in Neu Poserin
Neu Poserin has a varied landscape of lakes, dunes, sandy grasslands, heaths and the Großes Serrahn fen complex. Signposted hiking trails lead to various viewpoints and observation stands. If you are planning a stay, you can choose from different interests: moorland and forest, scenic views or nature observation. This is a good starting point when looking for accommodation. First consider which aspect of the municipality matters most for your trip.
Moorland, Forest and Heath
Großes Serrahn is a moor in the municipality of Neu Poserin and lies within the Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide Nature Park. Together with Kleines Serrahn, it forms the largest nature reserve in the Goldberg-Mildenitz administrative district, covering an area of 722 hectares. The Schwinzer Heide offers a different geographical perspective: it stretches across the municipalities of Dobbertin and Neu Poserin, as well as the town of Goldberg. The heath covers around 10,000 hectares and is the largest contiguous forest in the district of Ludwigslust-Parchim. The figures refer to different areas: 722 hectares refers to the joint nature reserve of Großes and Kleines Serrahn, while around 10,000 hectares refers to the Schwinzer Heide.
Two other nature reserves, Langhagensee and Dünenkiefernwald, are also located in the northern part of the municipality. The signposted hiking trails in Neu Poserin lead to various viewpoints and observation stands. One specific landmark is the “Rothirsch” observation tower in Sandhof, a district of the municipality. From there, you can enjoy views of the Serrahn landscape. Parks in Neu Poserin are also among the municipality’s recreational facilities. The varied landscape offers opportunities for recreation in natural surroundings; you can decide which of these natural attractions to focus on according to your interests.
Landscape and History as Travel Interests
The manor house in the municipality of Neu Poserin dates from the 19th century. It adds a historical point of interest to the natural attractions. When planning your trip, landscape and architectural history can therefore be considered as separate interests: one may lead you to moorland, forest, trails and viewpoints, while the other turns your attention to the manor house. When looking for accommodation in Neu Poserin, you can use these interests as a guide and consider which one will be the main focus of your stay. This helps you describe the kind of trip you want more precisely without treating different places and themes as if they were the same.
Culture in the Wider Ludwigslust-Parchim Destination
In the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim destination, Ludwigslust Palace offers a distinct historical focus. It was the former residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg. The palace, park and town form an ensemble known as the “Little Versailles of the North.” The palace also forms the centrepiece of an almost entirely preserved late Baroque town layout, with a former court church and an English-style landscape park. The palace presents art and courtly domestic culture from the 18th and early 19th centuries.
The Dömitz Citadel offers a different subject, also within the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim destination. Built in the Renaissance style after Italian models, the fortress is pentagonal, with bastions, casemates and a drawbridge. The museum in the fortress covers the history of the fortress and town, the history of the Elbe, harbour and bridges, as well as Fritz Reuter; it also features special and art exhibitions. Ludwigslust Palace and Dömitz Citadel thus offer different cultural highlights in the wider destination, while Neu Poserin is shaped by its own moorland, heath and forest landscape.
