Discover Rambin: Brick Architecture and Bodden Landscape
Accommodation in Rambin
Rambin brings together a church history reaching back to the Middle Ages, an agricultural heritage and routes into the Bodden landscape. This offers a tangible contrast for planning your trip: you can focus on architecture and collections, or make walks and cycling tours your priority. Rambin is also a good base for excursions around the island of Rügen or to the mainland.
Church Art and Architectural History
St. John’s Church in Rambin was first mentioned in a document in 1300, making it one of the oldest churches on the island of Rügen. Its oldest furnishing is a baptismal font from the 13th century. Other notable features include a late-medieval triumphal cross and a late-medieval carved figure of Mary with the Child. These different works give the church a multifaceted art-historical character.
In Bessin stands the Chapel of the Holy Cross, an octagonal Gothic brick building. Brick architecture can also be found at St. Jürgen Monastery: the two-storey building there is described as classicism in its purest form. The monastery chapel now houses a gallery with changing exhibitions. Gothic design, classicist architecture and medieval works of art thus offer different ways to explore Rambin’s cultural history.
Agricultural History and a Museum Visit
The Rambin Local History Museum preserves an almost complete collection of agricultural tools and machinery. It was assembled at the former farm of Friedrich Herud, a farmer from Götemitz, and illustrates German agriculture in the first half of the 19th century. Alongside church art, tools and machinery take centre stage, offering a concrete insight into the history of agriculture.
The local history museum has no regular opening hours and opens for events held by the association. You can arrange guided tours or visits individually with the museum management or the association’s board. It is therefore best to plan your visit around an event or arrange it in advance.
Conversations at the Bread Oven and Regional Cuisine
From April to September, the “Rambin Conversations at the Bread Oven” take place at 5 pm on the last Friday of each month. Fresh bread is baked, and there are talks and group discussions. If you would like to include this event in your trip plans, check the current annual schedule beforehand.
The Rügen Farmers’ Market Alte Pommernkate in Rambin offers breakfast, regional lunch dishes, home-baked cakes, a grill in the courtyard and a fish stall. The selection ranges from breakfast to hot meals and cakes. You can include the market in your plans as a culinary highlight alongside the village’s cultural and historical attractions.
Walking and Cycling in the Bodden Landscape
Explore the Bodden landscape near Rambin on walks and cycling tours, where you may spot wild geese and cranes. Cycling routes from Rambin lead to Lake Karow. From there, you can enjoy an impressive view of the Kubitzer Bodden and the salt meadows. When choosing your activities, you can weigh up a tour through the landscape against the views of the Bodden and salt meadows.
The Kubitzer Bodden borders Rambin, and fishing is possible there. Walking, cycling and fishing are different ways to include the landscape and water in your travel plans. Deciding which of these matters most to you can also help you shape the kind of stay you want.
Choose Rambin as Your Base
Rambin is a good base for excursions around the island of Rügen or to the mainland. When travelling from Stralsund, take the “Altefähr/Rambin” exit from the B96n and then follow the old federal road through Rambin. Without presuming a particular excursion, this helps answer a practical question: would you like to spend your stay exploring Rügen, or also take trips to the mainland? You can use this to guide your search for a place to stay in Rambin.
