In Zinnowitz, fine sandy Baltic Sea beaches, a promenade with wooden sculptures and spa architecture, and a year-round theater program in the town center come together. The Vineta pier extends 315 meters into the Baltic Sea and serves as a landing stage for passenger ships. You can shape your stay around different interests: the beach and a nature garden, culture in town, or a glimpse of life on the seabed.

Beach, promenade and wooden sculptures

The white, fine sandy beach is up to 40 meters wide and is supervised by lifeguards in summer. Along the beach promenade, the path leads through the “Garden of the Senses,” with colorful landscaped gardens, wooden sculptures and spa architecture. Numerous buildings along the promenade can be admired as examples of this architecture and discovered as photo opportunities.

The wooden sculptures are made from solid oak trunks. They stand along the beach promenade and in the adjoining wooden sculpture park; the open-air gallery with its sculptures is accessible to everyone around the clock. The sculpture trail covers a separate section: it leads eastward from the concert shell along the promenade to the Zinnowitzer Hof.

The nature garden is also located along the beach promenade. There, information stations complement a lizard refuge, a barefoot path and a wildflower bed. Together with the landscaped gardens and wood carvings, the promenade offers several specific reasons to spend time outdoors.

Theater, pier and other experiences

In the center of Zinnowitz, the yellow theater “Die Blechbüchse” offers drama, music, readings and cabaret year-round. Every summer, the Vineta Festival also takes place outdoors; each year, it offers a new theatrical adventure. When planning your trip, you can choose between the year-round stage program and the summer open-air performance.

The diving gondola at the pier offers a different view of the Baltic Sea. The approximately 40-minute ride includes an introduction to the Baltic Sea’s ecology and local features, as well as 3D nature films. It focuses on the animal and plant life of the seabed. The Vineta pier is also a landing stage for passenger ships, which travel, among other destinations, to Poland, Rügen Island and the Kaiserbäder seaside resorts. If a boat trip is part of your plans, check the schedule in advance.

The Protestant church also shapes the townscape: it was inaugurated in 1895 as a neo-Gothic brick building. For information on events, accommodation and leisure activities, the Haus des Gastes in Zinnowitz is happy to help.

Plan your accommodation and journey

When looking for accommodation in Zinnowitz, it helps to first consider what you would like your stay to include. Should the beach and promenade be the main focus, or are you especially interested in the theater and diving gondola? The time of year also matters when planning: lifeguards supervise the beach in summer, and the Vineta Festival takes place outdoors every summer.

By train, travel via Züssow and change to the Usedomer Bäderbahn, which runs directly to Zinnowitz via Wolgast. During the peak season, trains run every 30 minutes; in the off-season, they run hourly. As schedules may change, check connections before you travel.

In the wider travel destination of Vorpommern-Greifswald

The district of Vorpommern-Greifswald also offers other nature and culture attractions, distinct from Zinnowitz’s local character. The three nature parks cover almost 40 percent of the district. In Anklam, the Otto Lilienthal Museum is dedicated to the aviation pioneer, mechanical engineer and humanist Otto Lilienthal. The Pomeranian State Museum in Greifswald displays the Croy Tapestry from 1554, a cultural and historical artifact from the Reformation era. These examples broaden the view of the wider travel destination without replacing the beach and cultural experiences in Zinnowitz.
