Angermund brings together a remarkable natural landscape and traces of many centuries. Forests and gravel pits give the area its distinctive character, while the chapel, community centre and mausoleum tell its story. The Kaiserswerth–Angermund local hiking trail and Heltorf Palace Park, which has seasonal opening hours, are also worth a visit.

Natural Landscape and Palace Park

The 303-hectare Ăśberanger Mark nature reserve includes woodland in Heltorfer Mark and Ăśberanger Mark. It stretches along Angermunder Baggersee and the Angermund district. Old hornbeams, elms, ash trees and hawthorns grow in the forest of Ăśberanger Mark. The forest was selected as a natural area deserving special protection under the EU Habitats Directive. The three gravel pits in the Angermund area were created by former gravel extraction and are now used mainly for recreation. Together, the forest and lakes offer an impression of how nature conservation and recreational landscapes meet in the surrounding area.

Heltorf moated castle is located at the northern end of Angermund. Heltorf Palace Park covers 54 hectares and was laid out as an English landscape garden by Maximilian Weyhe in the 19th century. In 2026, it has seasonal opening hours: from 3 April to 31 October, the park is open on weekends and public holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. If you are planning a visit, check these times before travelling. Nature lovers can therefore plan their visit separately from a hike or a visit to the historic sites.

Historical Traces in Angermund

The history of the area reaches far back: people visited DĂĽsseldorf-Angermund in the late phase of the last Ice Age, around 13,000 years ago. South of the settlement, a motte was developed into a lowland castle in the 13th century, forming an elongated oval complex. Later centuries are also reflected in specific buildings. St Hubertus Chapel in DĂĽsseldorf-Angermund dates from the 17th century. Angermund Community Centre in DĂĽsseldorf was built in the Baroque style in the 18th century and has been a listed building since 1984.

A mausoleum stands in Angermund Cemetery. It was built in 1812 by the administration of the Counts von Spee and is still preserved today. Even an everyday look at the streets reveals a distinctive detail: Angermund’s streets are marked with hand-carved wooden signs, each bearing the street name and a rose. Those interested in local history will find a range of points of interest here—from archaeological traces and historic buildings to a visible local design motif.
