Holthausen can be explored through a variety of attractions: parkland, outdoor activities and architecture each give the area its own character. In Elbroich Park in Düsseldorf-Holthausen, gentle valleys, low hills and broad, level areas shape the landscape. There is also a wooded area with mature trees and around 40 tree species. The park covers 14.6 hectares.

Parks, landscapes and paths

Facilities at Elbroich Park include a playground, a water playground, an indoor skate park, a play and sunbathing lawn, and a music pavilion. The dog exercise area is near the indoor skate park. The park can be reached on U-Bahn lines U74 and U77 at Holthausen station, and on bus line 789 at Am Falder stop.

Architecture and history

Two very different attractions offer a glimpse of the area's architecture. The “Holthausen Mission Cross” is a wayside cross made of light sandstone, dating from 1860. St. Joseph Holthausen is a Gothic cruciform church. Together, the stone cross and the church represent two distinct forms of sacred architecture and commemorative culture.

Routes and leisure activities

In Niederheider Wäldchen, there is a 1.5-kilometre circular walking trail that is also used as a fitness trail. Niederheider Wäldchen Leisure Park covers 230,000 square metres. This highlights two different measures: the length of a named route and the area of a leisure park. For planning your day, the difference between a clearly defined loop and a larger park area is easy to grasp.

Gutshof Niederheid is a listed farmstead whose origins can be traced back to the 13th century; it was formerly called Niederheider Hof. As a children's farm with a riding school, the estate combines its historical origins with a present-day use. Here, listed heritage meets a children's farm with a riding school.

The D4 cycling tour runs from Holthausen to Stockum. Unlike the circular walking trail, it describes a route between two places rather than a loop; a named walking loop and a cycling tour with a destination therefore offer different planning options.

Familienbad Niederheid is located right next to the Sportpark Niederheid sports complex. It offers activities for older adults, children, babies and aquafitness participants; these activities may change. An outdoor fitness equipment circuit has also opened at Sportpark Niederheid.
