Grevenbroich between Culture and Nature
Accommodation in Grevenbroich
Grevenbroich combines culture in the city centre with nature experiences, green spaces and activities along the Erft. Villa Erckens is a cultural and exhibition centre in the city’s green heart; at the wildlife park in the Bend, the focus is on observing animals, the petting zoo and the playground. Paths invite you to enjoy long walks and cycle rides, and you can go paddling or canoeing on the Erft.
Culture and Local History
Villa Erckens is a vibrant cultural and exhibition centre in the green heart of Grevenbroich’s city centre. Its permanent exhibition covers around 370 m² and offers insights into regional perspectives through colourful themed rooms and interactive features. Topics range from language, landscape and energy to food and drink, religions, festivals and work. Language and landscape offer different perspectives from energy or food and drink; religions, festivals and work broaden the range of topics to include questions of culture as it is lived. The exhibition’s presentation may change.
Grevenbroich city tours cover the city’s founding around 750 years ago and what its layout reveals about its history. They explore both the city’s early history and the traces that can be read in its design. If you are planning a tour, check the current arrangements with the organiser.
Animals, Woodland Park and Green Spaces
At the wildlife park in the Bend, you can observe up to 200 wild and domestic animals in naturalistic enclosures. Facilities include a petting zoo where you can interact directly with some of the animals, and a large playground. For a family outing, the site combines animal watching with opportunities to play. The wildlife park’s paths are surfaced woodland trails and are also easy to navigate with a wheelchair or walking frame.
The Ian Hamilton Finlay Park offers a different experience: it is a landscaped woodland park with artworks carefully integrated into the setting. The woodland design and art are its joint focus. In the city centre, the northern and southern green spaces along the Erft, by the former State Garden Show site, are also ideal for long walks and cycle rides. Both a landscaped woodland park and riverside green spaces therefore offer ways to spend time outdoors.
On Foot, by Bike or on the Water
From Grevenbroich city centre, you can cycle or walk south past Schloßpark and the Old Castle, through the Bend, and along the Erft past Gustorf Mill and Welchenberg to the Bergheim city limits. The route description names several landmarks for an outing that combines exercise with views along the Erft.
In Grevenbroich, recreational paddlers can paddle or canoe on the Erft in either direction, towards Bergheim or towards Neuss. Alongside walks and cycle rides, there are also activities on the water to choose from. Local water conditions can vary; check them before setting out.
From Choosing Excursions to Choosing Accommodation
Villa Erckens and the city tours offer a cultural focus; animal watching, surfaced paths, green spaces and the Erft appeal to other interests.
