Woodland scenery around Schloss Loburg

Ostbevern is nestled in the MĂĽnsterland park landscape and surrounded by extensive woodland. Forest and parkland shape the scenery particularly around Schloss Loburg: the adjoining woodland covers more than 50 hectares. Very old paths are lined with ditches and ponds, giving the woodland its own character.

In the landscaped park at Schloss Loburg, Douglas firs and rhododendrons provide a setting for long walks; they have adorned the park for around a century. A Way of the Cross with 14 stations leads through the woodland by Schloss Loburg. This landscape brings together quiet stretches of path, a way of religious significance marked with stations, and long walks in the park.

Trails for nature watching and walks

Ostbevern’s hiking trails are marked with yellow hiking-boot symbols. The trails through the Loburg and Schirl farming communities, as well as the Spieker hiking route in Brock, are considered easy routes suitable for small children and nature watching. If you like to follow a route when you go out, you can use these markers and named trails as your guide.

The beaver hiking route has 21 hides. If you plan to visit individual hides, check their availability, as it may change. The different trail options have their own focus: some are geared towards easy walks and nature watching, while others take you through the woodland by Schloss Loburg along the stations of the Way of the Cross.

Churches, half-timbered buildings and architectural history

The St. Ambrosius parish church complex includes a three-aisled hall church dating from 1962, a church tower with a base dating from the 12th century, and a Gothic church from the 16th century. The different dates give the ensemble a layered architectural history. In Brock, a small half-timbered settlement beside the Herz-Jesu parish church offers a different architectural accent.

Ostbevern’s architectural history also includes a former Westphalian smallholder’s house belonging to the Poggenburg family. It was transferred to the Ostbevern Local History Association and renovated in 1995. The local history museum displays a collection on local crafts and farming traditions. Traditional crafts such as clog making are also part of the visitor programme.

Museums and visiting conditions

Another highlight in Warendorf

In Warendorf, the wider travel destination, the annual stallion parades offer a different theme: over three days at the end of September, more than 100 stallions are presented in 20 professionally narrated displays. So alongside Ostbevern’s forest trails, architectural history and craft traditions, Warendorf also offers its own event themes to choose from.
