Ahrbrück offers several reasons to visit: the Marian pilgrimage chapel in Pützfeld represents religious culture, the Ahr Cycle Path and trails shown on Eifel Club maps offer opportunities to get active, and the landscape around the town is characterised by dense woodland. Consider whether pilgrimage and culture, hiking and cycling, or an independent camping stay will shape your visit.

Pilgrimage and history in Pützfeld

The Marian Chapel in Ahrbrück-Pützfeld is a pilgrimage site dedicated to the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus. The Marian pilgrimage chapel in Pützfeld was established through a private endowment by Werner Dietrich Freiherr von Friemersdorf zu Pützfeld and his wife, Maria Magdalena Scheiffardt von Merode zu Allner. This dedication connects a religious reason for visiting with a specific history of the chapel’s endowment. The chapel can therefore be a distinct focus for travellers who wish to include religious history in their trip. Check the local opening arrangements before travelling.

The Ahr Cycle Path and trails in the municipal area

The Ahr Cycle Path leads into the upper Ahr Valley, passing the Marian pilgrimage chapel in Pützfeld on the way to Ahrbrück. Its quiet location also makes it popular with hikers and walkers. The cycle path is therefore not just of interest for cycling; walking it is also an option when planning your day. It can be followed as far as the source of the Ahr or along the vineyards of the Ahr Valley. The source and vineyards offer different landscape features to consider when choosing a route. A municipal hiking guide from 2019 also lists seven trails shown on Eifel Club maps for the municipal area of Ahrbrück. Check the current trail markings locally. The seven trails are within the municipal area; the Ahr Cycle Path leads into the upper Ahr Valley.

The Bat Trail and St Catherine’s Chapel

The Bat Trail near Hönningen includes a meadow path with views of Hönningen and the bright yellow St Catherine’s Chapel in Ahrbrück. St Catherine’s Chapel should be distinguished from the Marian pilgrimage chapel in Pützfeld: one is a landmark to view from the meadow path, while the other is a pilgrimage site. On 2 October 2025, it was announced that St Catherine’s Chapel would remain permanently closed until further notice. Check the current status before visiting.

Plan your accommodation and journey

The area around Ahrbrück is heavily wooded, and there are also three hiking huts. Campsites around the town offer options for independent holidays; check their current availability. This gives you different options to focus on when planning: hiking in the surrounding area or an independent camping stay. Ahrbrück is the last stop on the Ahr Valley Railway before it returns to the Rhine. If you are planning to travel by train, check current services.
