Kirchen (Sieg) brings together striking viewpoints, hiking trails and cultural attractions. The Otto Tower offers views across the Siegtal and towards the Westerwald; at Druidenstein, a natural monument meets historic paths. The town provides practical starting points for planning your trip: a longer circular hike, a short Stations of the Cross trail, museums and a direct rail connection.

Views and Trails around Kirchen

The 19-metre-high Otto Tower stands on the 405-metre-high Kahlberg. From there, views extend across the Siegtal, to Freusburg and towards the Westerwald. The viewpoint combines a striking structure with sweeping views of the landscape—a special way to experience Kirchen from above.

Druidenstein is considered a natural monument and lies at an elevation of about 450 metres above sea level. Its age is estimated to be between 1 and 25 million years. The Druidenstein Circular Hiking Trail also leads to this natural monument: the route climbs to the 517-metre summit of Windhahn and then continues to Druidenstein.

The 16-kilometre Wäller Tour Druidenstein Circular Hiking Trail is a longer route that starts and ends in Kirchen. The Historic Stations of the Cross trail offers a different distance: it is 600 metres long, runs from Herkersdorf to Druidenstein and includes 14 grottoes dating from the 1920s. The two routes differ considerably in length and offer distinct experiences: an extensive circular hike on the one hand, and a short trail with religious stations on the other.

Cultural Attractions and Regional Impressions

The Museum of the Town of Kirchen is at Wiesenstraße 7. The Otto Pfeiffer Museum is in Freusburg, at Burgstraße 11. When planning a visit, it is advisable to check current access arrangements. Freusburg Castle is also located in Freusburg, above the Siegtal, and is believed to be more than 1,000 years old.

The Stations of the Cross trail combines a specific route with its 14 grottoes; the two museums offer further cultural attractions in Kirchen and Freusburg. This gives you the chance to plan outings around different interests, rather than making every day trip the same. If you are also interested in the wider geographical area, the Sieg Nature Region stretches between Siegburg and Mudersbach. Wooded ridges and valleys, half-timbered villages, churches, monasteries, castles and museums shape its character.

The tourist information office in the centre of Kirchen offers hiking and cycling suggestions, as well as brochures, leaflets and maps. The materials available may change. Its regional corner stocks products such as regional beer, honey, liqueur and alpaca items; the selection may vary here too. This gives you both ideas for activities and an overview of regional products while you are there.
