Explore Hochstätten through its distinctive sights: a themed walking trail winds through fir forests, vineyards and small stream valleys. Wide-ranging views, information about local history and culture, and a community garden each add a different dimension to your stay.

A trail through forests and wine country

The themed trail is about 4.5 kilometres long. Along the way, forests, wine-growing areas and small stream valleys alternate, with wide-ranging views opening up at several points. Ten information boards highlight local history and culture. Geocaches can also be found at or near the themed points of interest.

The route brings together scenic views and small discoveries along the same loop: you can take in the views, linger at the information boards or search for geocaches. It offers different ways to experience the surroundings attentively, without requiring a set walking time. Check the condition of the paths locally.

A break in the community garden

The community garden on Kanalstraße brings several amenities together in one place. These include a small barefoot path, a water-treading pool and outdoor exercise equipment. Seating and quiet areas offer places to pause; there is also a lawn suitable for picnics.

Unlike the walking trail, the garden offers separate opportunities for exercise and rest side by side. This can make planning your day easier if you want to balance walking and breaks in different ways. Maintenance or seasonal conditions may affect the state of the facilities; check their condition before your visit.

Culture and trails in the wider Bad Kreuznach destination

In Bad Kreuznach, the bridge houses reflect a distinctive use of the river area: they were built from 1480 onwards due to a lack of space. The half-timbered buildings stand on the piers of the old Nahe Bridge, which was built around 1300. The houses and the older bridge thus reveal two different periods of construction.

Since 1985/86, the museums of the city of Bad Kreuznach have been housed in the listed former Bangert manor, which is set in a historic park. In Bretzenheim is the Felseneremitage, a place of worship carved entirely into the rock. It probably dates back to prehistoric times; in the early Christian period, it was repurposed. It can be viewed from outside all year round and without a guide. Entry to the rock dwelling is currently not possible due to a rockslide.

Other places in the wider destination have their own distinct attractions. In Bad Sobernheim, a 3.5-kilometre barefoot trail with clay-treading pools, an obstacle course and various ground surfaces leads to the Nahe; it is listed as a summer recreational activity. Unlike Hochstätten’s trail, with its scenery and information boards, the focus there is on experiencing different surfaces underfoot. In Windesheim, the orgel ART Museum is devoted to musical instruments and is unique of its kind in Germany.
