Bitburg combines traces of Roman and medieval history with museums, brewing culture and a multimedia trail through the town centre. Art in public spaces, summer concerts and a section of a cycling route add to the range of activities for a stay. You can focus on local history and culture or include some active pursuits.

Roman Heritage and Architectural History

Parts of the Roman and medieval fortifications have been preserved at the Roman Wall in Bitburg. The Bitburg-Prüm District Museum explores the history of the Bitburg-Prüm district and the town of Bitburg through eleven themed sections. Topics include agriculture, domestic life, traditional crafts and architecture in the Eifel. Special exhibitions, lectures and other cultural events are regularly held in the auditorium.

The Church of Our Lady also reflects different phases of construction: remains of earlier church buildings have been preserved in its structure. A Romanesque church was followed by a single-nave Gothic hall church. Bitburg therefore offers different ways to explore history, from remnants of fortifications to traces of older church architecture.

Museums and Culture Under One Roof

Haus Beda brings together a painting and sculpture museum, exhibition rooms, a function hall, rooms for artistic activities and the municipal library. The museum includes the Fritz von Wille Collection, with around 80 paintings. Alongside the town’s history and architecture, it offers a distinct focus on art and cultural spaces.

Brewery History and Discoveries in Town

A tour of the Bitburger Erlebniswelt introduces visitors to the brewery’s history, brewing ingredients and beer production. It takes you through a historic brewery building whose foundations date back to the mid-19th century. After the guided tours, guests are invited for a drink in the Bit-Lounge. For planning your visit, it is advisable to check the latest information about the drink in advance.

The multimedia Archaeological Trail runs through Bitburg town centre. Information boards and steles provide background information, while building elements are visualised in a 360° augmented reality display. The trail is largely wheelchair- and pushchair-friendly. There are two steps to negotiate at one point, which is worth bearing in mind when planning your route.

Squares and works of art also shape a stroll around town. Bedaplatz is used as a market and car park, as well as a venue for various large events. At Pferdemarkt, the fountain is a highlight of a walk through Bitburg: it was unveiled at the Old Town Festival at the end of May 1992, and its bronze sculpture by Roger Delleré depicts the horse trade. Summer concerts in a beer-garden atmosphere are held in the Konrad-Adenauer-Anlage in the town centre.

Cycling and Practical Information

A specific, dated update on cycling infrastructure is available: on 23 October 2025, a cycling path section of about 800 metres between the district of Masholder and the town of Bitburg was officially opened to cyclists. The Bitburger Land Tourist Information Centre provides information about places to visit, as well as hiking and cycling routes. It is located at the Roman Wall in the heart of Bitburg. Its shop offers regional products, souvenirs from the Eifel and Bitburger Land, and hiking maps. Check the latest opening hours before your visit.

When choosing accommodation in Bitburg, you can use your planned activities as a starting point: museums, church architecture and public art offer a different focus from a brewery tour or cycling. Consider which experiences matter most to you during your stay, then compare accommodation to suit your travel plans.
