Oberweiler is a municipality in Rhineland-Palatinate in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm district. The village lies on the Finkenbach on a high ridge between the Nims and the Prüm. At around 430 metres above sea level, its elevated setting is a distinctive feature. The municipality covers 531 hectares, of which 286 hectares are forest. Nearby access to the A60 and B51 provides road connections to Oberweiler.

Elevated Setting and Local History

Until the French period, Oberweiler was a lordship of its own within the Duchy of Luxembourg. The name Oberwiller is documented in 1473; at that time, the settlement had five households. These details offer different historical perspectives: the lordship places the village in its political context, while the number of households gives a concrete impression of its size at the time.

A later period is represented by the Catholic branch church of St. Hubertus, dating from 1950. It is a stop on a walk through the village. This brings together a look at the village’s earlier history and a specific place to pause along the way.

Nearby, a steepening path leads through the Geweberwald, among beech, oak and spruce trees. Another trail along the Prüm Valley offers a nature-focused experience. This lets you choose between views of Oberweiler’s houses, a wooded climb and a nature experience in the Prüm Valley.
